Every night that i go out to my driveway to put the garbage out or something, i walk past where i used to park my Z (before i garaged it for the 3 days it was outside of my house) and just wonder what kind of spineless piece of **** does this, and how they rationalize it. For future, get a viper alarm with a tilt sensor, how much range you want is your call. i got smart start just for the added range. Make sure your tilt sensor is set pretty sensitive though, they don't need much clearance to get your wheels off. Its not the same kind of thing as when you change your wheels. They need a tiny bit of room and sometimes they can just slide bricks under and deflate your tires.

These people have almost ruined my enjoyment of this car. I am constantly paranoid about it if its not in my garage. I dont want to go to the mall or movies or beach or any place where its not in eyesight.

now i'm worried that when i get aftermarket wheels, i'll be screwed b/c if i want them replaced i will have to wait so long. It makes me just want to put hub caps on my car because these people will steal anything else.

has anyone here ever had aftermarket rims stolen? were they covered by ins?

Good luck with your situation, and i'd take the money if i was you. If you think this will happen again just get the OEM wheels again. If you aren't worried, get some thing real nice. Just keep in mind, the scariest part is these people know where you live, and once you get the wheels put on they can come back and do it again. dont have your wheels replaced until you have an alarm lined up and ready to install that day.... sorry for rambling.
I'm not too concerned with people stealing the car itself (correct me if i'm wrong, the keyless ignition means that without the key fob you cannot jump start the car at because it uses a form of encryption). I'm probably not going to opt for the viper alarm for its extra features. I just want the tilt sensor Viper - Digital Tilt Motion Sensor or Crime Guard AU-46TD Tilt Sensor Dual-stage digital tilt-motion sensor for Crime Guard alarm systems at Crutchfield.com

Can these be wired into the car's alarm system (i.e. armed/disarmed by nissan's OEM key fob) without having to purchase another receiver/trasmitter?

agreed.

Down here we also have a lot of gated communities and we've been looking for homes in those. We were looking for a new place anyway...

question to those with the Viper. Do you basically carry two key fobs? The one from Nissan and the one for the Viper? not a big deal, I'm just trying to understand how it ties in together. Like do you lock your doors with one and then arm the alarm with the other or do you lock and arm together with the Viper and then just keep the nissan fob in your pocket to start the car?

edit: oh, I like yz's idea better if that works.

^ that wont work. you need the actual viper alarm in order to have the tilt/glass break/shock sensor. Yes i carry 2 fobs. I essentially never use the nissan fob anymore. I use the viper fob. it disarms the alarm/unlocks the door when i press unlock, and locks/arms when i lock. i also requested the add a trunk release feature on teh remote so i now have that. At first you want to use the buttons on teh door but that will set off the alarm because you unlock the door but don't disarm the alarm. Ask your shop about just getting the viper 3303 (2000 foot range) and then the two sensors (they total 170 dollars). Its the most basic set up but i really think you should do it.

so in short, i carry 2 fobs. i never use the nissan one, i just keep it on me so i can start the car. and you need a viper system to use their other add ons, which can't be wired into the nissan alarm.

cool, thanks Jeff.

Yeah, I would like the 3002 (I didnt' see the 3303 on their web site) and then add the tilt sensor and the backup siren.

I know one of the sensors would be the tilt sensor, what's the other sensor for? I can't find the 3303 on the viper website, so I'm guessing it's discontinued and has been replaced by these: Viper - Security.

Is the system transferable from one car to the next? And do you know if there are any tilt sensors that can be wired to the cars oem alarm system? (e.g., nissan tilt sensors - I tried searching but nissan doesn't manufacture them).

nah you're not gonna have any luck wiring something into the nissan alarm. The nissan alarm is really useless and wont interface to anything. I got the glass break sensor and tilt sensor. If someone starts banging ont he glass with something metal, the alarm will go off. If the glass in fact breaks, the alarm will obviously also go off. I'd suggest you take the insurance money, but tjlazers wheels, cover your deductible with the extra cash and put whatever is leftover towards the alarm system. If you can't garage your car, you probably don't want to attract any more attention by buying volks or something. If you don't get an alarm, and put that money towards nicer wheels, you are basically saying 'hey guys! come back i've got some more wheels for you!'

Also, just an FYI, but ask your insurance company about lowing the deductable. I have a $250 deductable that I lowered from $500 and it cost me $50 per year.

The front wheels are turned in the photo! I thought you couldn't remove the wheels, if the wheels were turned?

Wouldn't this be considered fraud? Changing your insurance after an incident occurs to pay less deductible?

I've never heard of this before, if the wheels can turn in the well, I think they should be able to come off at any angle. Apparently, it can be done.

Man sorry to hear about that. Most people now a days don't give a damn.
The worst thing is it makes a guy worry about enjoying his car.
You worry about going anywhere in your car for fear of some a hole
jacking with it. That's the thing about our cars they just don't blend in
they stick out like a sore thumb.

I read it some where, but that is now proved incorrect!

The deductible wouldn't change for the active incident. Only for future incidents.
