Man, if you deal with Nissan the same way you deal with a little ribbing on here, you're the proud owner of a useless $40,000 hunk of metal and plastic.

Did you do your own oil changes, or did you take your car someplace else that did them for you?

Either way, that's Nissan's way out of helping you.

Wow. So there was no leak. I'm figuring if there was any kind of serious leak you would see traces of oil all under the car. I find it kind of hard to believe that she burnt all the oil without you knowing about it. How long after your last oil change did this happen???? Well just keep an eye on your dealer, cause if they have a feeling it was your fault or the fault of the shop you had the change done at there gonna do there best at not paying for the damage. Good luck man.

FWIW, an 5qt oil leak would be obvious. If the plastic underbody cover is still in place, the oil would pool in it. Some would end up leaking onto the ground, but there would be some shred of evidence.

If the car burned 5qts, then you'd have seen a cloud of smoke coming out the exhaust.

What was the timing between your last oil change and this discovery? I wouldn't think you'd get more than a mile or two without oil before the engine seized.

Something doesn't add up.

Can't be the place that changed the oil because like he said, it was 3 months ago. Even if they only put 3 qts in I think he/the car would have noticed this before now.

Can't be the fill cap because if the oil came out that way...well think Gulf of Mexico...

If the old gasket was still on the filter it should have been and still should be obvious as well. Depend on where he parks it I guess.

either way, I'm not sure I believe that the car was completely empty and I'd also be pointing the finger at Nissan due to the fact that the oil light never came on. I mean come on, even if he doesn't check the dip stick, that light is there for a reason and if it's not working properly then it's just like anything else in the car....What if the airbag was not working and the light never came on. or the ABS light... I would do like someone else said and have the car taken to another dealer or mechanic because if there really was no oil in the car, then while yes, it may be PARTLY your fault for not checking it regularly, I'd still put 90% of the blame on Nissan for A) having a leak someplace and B) the oil light never coming on.

As for his spelling....holy crap. I'm in agreement with some of the others. First of all it's simple english. There, Their, whole, hole, And, car...if you're being lazy and trying to save time by not putting the "A" in the word "and" and the "G" in the word "going" then why waste your time by adding an extra "r" to the word "car" and an extra "o" in the word "so".

I can't spell to save my life but come on....

while I agree, and I TRY to check it at least everytime I get gas (which varies greatly between my civic and my Jeep) I admit to relying on the idiots lights way too much.

*** going out to check my oil now ****

It is starting to sound a bit like a Troll...that or just someone who doesnt want to accept that he's out 11k...

Like people said, it doesn't add up. Maybe he had no undertray? Maybe the filter came loose and fell out because it wasn't properly tightened. Or hes a troll

This is why cars (especially the Z which is known to eat oil) come with DIPSTICKS.

I'm constantly adding a half a quart or more to my car every thousand miles or so. You ever hear the saying "A ounce of prevention..."
