Default 1st run in with the Lawzzzzzzzz

Hey so just wanted to say i got pulled over for the first time in my Z last Sat.

Heres the story......

I had just finished swimming at my apt, me and a friend of mine were headed downtown to a local bar. It was roughly 7 pm, still broad daylight. I was excited to get to bar, in a generally good mood. I was driving on a service road beside a main freeway. I was at a red light, the light turned green, and I may have accelerated a little quickly and up to a speed slightly over the speed limit on said road.

After I was up to speed and cruising I glanced back at what appeared to be a white Dodge charger, at closer inspection I realized it might have been a local sheriff's charger. I proceeded to ask my friend "Brandon, is that a cop?" He replyed with "Hmmm.... I think that is a cop". Right after his reply, I got hit with the lights.

The officer proceeded up to my window, hand on pistol and asked me for my license and insurance, and proceeded to tell me I was going 54 in a 45. I have a Passport, that never went off during entire pull over process. So I think maybe he just used his speed tailing me to determain that I was speeding. My friend then proceeds to lean down, look out my window, and say "Hey (insert name of cop)". The cop greeted him back, busted out the tint gun to make sure I was legal, handed me my license back and gave me a verbal warning. Overall he was a nice guy, although I am certain things wouldn't have gone so smoothly if my friend wouldn't have happened to be in the car.

You see, My friend is in Police academy, and the cop that just happened to pull me over was his instructor!

In closing, I'm almost certain the cop was directly behind me at that red light and I just wasn't paying attention at all.

Gotta pay attention! Don't you hate those situations??

The richer areas where I live have all different types of unmarked police cars that pull you over. Chargers, Jeeps etc. It's those moments you feel like an idiot and just wish you would have paid more attention.

I'm glad you got away with just a warning. Moral of the story, don't rely on just your radar. And always look in your mirror :P

Glad you got a warning.

Best tip I can ever give folks, and I think it's why I have more warnings than tickets, is to just be courteous and passive with the police if you know you're in the wrong. "Please, thank you, sir/ma'am"... Also, follow the instructions to a tee.

It also helps if you inform them of little things, like "My registration is in the glove compartment. I'm going to reach for it now." Fact is, although it's a stressful situation, they're doing their job, and even if it's a routine stop, a cop has no reason to assume that. They get guns pulled on them, people trying to run them over, etc, etc... So, if you're generally pleasant and courteous and just go along with stuff, they tend to be a little lenient. Not always, but it works from time to time.

And if you're an attractive woman, you know that the pitiful story and waterworks can do the trick. Not that I'm advocating dishonesty, just sayin'...

I think the reason why I tend to not pay attention here is because, There are quiet a bit of gang crimes, thefts, drug problems, etc here. In 6 years of living here, this is first time I have ever been pulled over by cop car, I pass them speeding all the time. Fact is, 99% of speeding violations here are issued by motorcycles, so thats what I am paying attention to. Espec because they don't have a constant radar, my passport only picks them up when the click the gun, then it's too late, and they almost always tend to be ********. Every officer I have ever delt with in a car as a passanger in another vehicle was pretty nice and easy going. Most of the patrol officers have better things to do/ places to be than mess with traffic. I really believe the only reason i got pulled over this time was because of my loud exhaust, and flashy sports car, also maybe the shadowed tails, althought he didn't even mention them.

Ive had the same thing happen to me about cop behind me and not knowing and pulling off too quickly but not over speed limit. He stopped me and then just gave me a warning about pulling off too fast.

9 mph over the speed limit is picky for getting pulled over. Usually, there's a 10 mph cushion, unless one is in a construction zone or school. In those situations, I drive at or below the posted limit.

But the richer counties can afford a wider variety. We have unmarked BMW 3 Series' here.

Around here it's 5 MPH on the local roads. Maybe the highways will allow a 10mph cushion (there are enough people going 15-20 over that +5 to +10 are probably a waste of time), but local roads seem to have a smaller safety margin.

I don't think it was un-marked, it probably said "sheriff" on the side, I just wasn't paying attention.

When I was looking at it trying to tell, I was only seeing the front end.

I have always went by a (5 mph) cusion. Alot of the main roads in my city however, might as well be a nascar race....
