Its nothing malicious, its just that generally, car forums are full of enthusiasts. Generally, manual transmissions are driven by either A. people from countries outside the US where it is still the more popular transmission. B. People who got the cheapest level car which came with a manual transmission. C. Enthusiasts.

So yes it makes sense that there might be a sense of smugness coming from the drivers of MT, because maybe they dont understand why a car enthusiast would choose auto in a car they are so enthusiastic about having because it is so fun to drive, when the general consensus is that the 6mt is more fun to drive.

the only thing keeping MT alive anymore are people who have no money (ie 92 civic with a stick shift) and car enthusiasts, since it is now apparently slower, and not even better on gas. Everyone else who is opting for convenience in a car that really was never about being practical or convenient is helping to kill MT

Fact is this: People who have an auto ended up paying MORE for the car and it was a choice. It's advanced technology and it comes at a premium. Some people get the manual transmission because it's cheaper and it's all they can afford.

If you like having your hand on a stick while driving and it makes you feel more like a man, then more power to you.

I <3 this poast.

It is a fun irony that there are folks acting high and mighty about the cheaper option.

That said, I do enjoy having my hand on a stick, even when driving automatics.

The choice was easy for me with the Z, since I wanted 6mt AND it was cheaper. I can't imagine this car being boring to drive with 7AT, though. If nothing else, the crowd on this forum who say it isn't boring, and who actually own the 7AT, probably convinces me that it's fun.

My gf has a G37 with 7AT and when I drove it in manual mode there was definitely lag from when I initiated the gear change with the shifter and when it actually started shifting.

Must be the G then, because there's definitely no delay in gear switching.... I was just messing around last night with the paddle shifters.

Is there any delay when using the shifter rather than paddles? Her car has no paddles.

honestly i haven't used the shifter once... many people don't know but you don't need to put the car into manual mode when using the shifters. As soon as you flick one of the shifters the car goes into manual mode, and if you don't touch em for a 20-30 seconds, itll go back to Auto mode. Because of that handy feature, I never feel like reaching for the stick and putting it into Manual mode.

I've seen a lot of AT guys always say 'Driving in traffic is the reason they went for Automatic' I've driven AT & MT in traffic. It doesn't matter which one you're driving.. Traffic sucks, period. I mean come on.. really.. is it that much difficult to clutch and shift during traffic?!

But! I'm not hating.. I don't care if you drive an AT or MT. Heck, if I could afford it I would drive a GTR or even a Ferrari I would probably go for a AT... F1 AT/Clutch=Amazing!

To each their own though. I just prefer my MT

I missed this thread completely but I will say this, and most AT Z owners will agree; we are the ones that have to defend ourselves on why we chose 7AT over MT. Getting a sports car in MT is the common and accepted thing to do. Who the hell is going to argue with you on why you bought a sports car in MT... lol really? So what do you expect people to say when you ask them why they have an AT? They have to come up with some excuse, and some are embarrassed that they don't know how to drive manual, so thats how the traffic excuse came about heh. At the same time, we all bought the car because it's a 370... just like Jeffblue said above it still handles the same regardless of what tranny you have.

agreed, thats why everyone who drives manual is like '....Really?' when people pull out the traffic excuse. no one is going to insult someone for being lazy or not knowing how if thats the reason, just own up to it if it is.
