With almost any sequential shifter (which is essentially what the "stick" becomes in a 7AT in manual mode) momentum plays a large part in shifting. While accelerating, momentum is forcing you "back" into your seat and hence, an "upshift" should be a simple pull on the stick to shift whereas while braking, all the momentum is being forced forward and intstead of fighting that momentum, it is easier at that point to simply "push" forward for a downshift.

As is the case with street cars with a "civilian" form of sequential shifter, I guess auto manufacturers figure up is up and down is down. As a track driver it makes me crazy but what can you do? Although my DD is not a performance car, it is an auto with paddles and this "sequential" shifter in "manual" mode.

I had actually considered putting a true sequential shifter in my 6MT but I haven't heard of anyone manufacturing the unit yet.
I honestly still don't see the problem. its not like your hand flies into the back when accelerating so what is the problem with the "up"shift?

I know plenty of people who bash these type of stuff because "racing drivers do it"

I know people who shake around their steering wheel while turning because they see F1 drivers do it.
