Here's the answer to your question, OP.
If you pressed down the gas cap while the car was locked, it will remember that it was pushed down. If you then unlock the car, the gas cap will pop open. When you close your gas cap down next time, push it a bit softer and it should not pop open when you next unlock the car. The battery icon is actually for your phone, but it's terribly inaccurate.
