Yep, well the media makes it seem like Japan is one little place but in actual its a fairly large island and not all hit with snow or earthquake or radiation or tsunami. :D. I was down there earlier this month about 200 miles away from Fukushima. Other than conserving electricity (no a/c at hotel lobbies, sections of airport, no driers at washrooms, etc), business as usual in tokyoland. :D

FromG2Z 06-28-2011 08:30 AM

Last night, I kenchan'd (that's hip for motored, btw :D) my Z to our late night softball game. (We lost btw... grrrr). I gave a friend's son a ride in it, he's 19.

This morning, I once again kenchan'd Zena to work, and dropping her off to get clear bra'd (A-pillars, headlights, door handles, door guards) and 3M black CF wrap on the lower rear valence.

Pics when done.

p.s. I decided NOT to go with the clear bra on hood and fenders, as I don't think I can live with the "line" or "edge". On long trips, I'll just place blue painter's tape (what I use to buff/polish anyways), then the OEM leather bra that goes 3" on the hood to protect from chips....

:rofl2: hahaha!!!

yep, painter's tape ftw! actually when i drove to TR the other day in my G, i just kept good distance from the cars infront of me and went with no protection. felt good. :icon17:

^ hehe I figured you'd like that term. I should edit it to say "kenchan'd is hip for motored which is slang for drove" :D

Yeah as far as keeping good distance, I still do that no matter what, but sometimes on the highway, it's unavoidable to get behind semi's or cars that just go off of the main road into the sides and kick up all these rocks.... Chances are slim, but it's happened to me more than 1x already. And all it takes is that 1 time, then you have a permanent chip arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

sucks. but glad you caught it in time.

those things are pretty easy to install if you have rivet tool... another tool i need to get down the road... (not for this purpose but a tool to have in general).

i like the sound, it's not loud, but you can tell it's not stock anymore. As for power, not sure yet, someone was going to get it'd dyno'd, not sure if they did yet or not.

AlexRaymond19 06-28-2011 07:05 PM

So i pulled up to a stop light today at an intersection that only has a left turn, with 2 lanes merging into one. There is a huge line of traffic so i say screw it and went in the right lane where there was no one. I have the windows down and the music going, enjoying myself, when all of a sudden i head ''HEY!'' I think to myself oh god, what now. Figuring someone was trying to yell at me for ''cutting in line''. So i turn my head hesitantly to the left and see a dude hanging his arms out the window. I turn my music down and say whats up? He replies ''sick car man, let me get a photo'' and i said sure. He took several, and the driver was kind enough to let me into traffic with no issues :-) Kinda turned my not so good say better. Has this ever happend to anyone?

I had some guy working a Lowes come up to me and chatted me up about the car Sunday. Made my day

Dembflyr 06-28-2011 08:11 PM

Sunday must have been a chat up a Z owner day.

I was coming out of a hardware store when I noticed three guys around my Z. As I walked up one said "what kind of turbo kit do you have on that?"

I tried to play it off but they obviously knew what they were looking at.

Turns out one of them has a 2010 Nismo and one of the other had intalled a turbo kit on a 350.

I have had a similar episode cruising after a cruise night. I was in the fast lane and had a car pull up in the slow lane. He yelled out so I turned down the music and he asked a couple questions and said he liked my car. When the light turned green he let me in and I turned right at the next light. I've never had a negative comment inperson just by posters here. Aint that strange? Wouldn't think haters would be on here. But maybe everybody isn't as they seem here.

FromG2Z 06-28-2011 11:25 PM

^ what haters have you seen here towards your car????

FromG2Z 06-28-2011 11:39 PM

Make that a Monday too, for people commenting on our cars.

So I took the wife out to dinner tonight for her birthday. Upon returning to my car, a very nice elder gentlemanand his wife were sitting in the car stall next to mine, having some ice cream as it was a gorgeous summer night. Apparently, they've been there a while. As I approach the Z with my wife, the man speaks out, "What kind of car is that???". I proceed to answer accordingly. He goes on to say (I kid you not), "My... That has to be the most beautiful car I have ever seen. They really got the lines right on the car. My wife and I walked around your car and had a real good look at it."

Word for word... that's what he said... Best compliment I have ever gotten for a car I've owned, especially coming from a guy maybe in his 50's or 60's... assuming he's seen his fair share of "beautiful" cars, saying that my Z was one of them, if not the best, says a lot about our cars. Made me feel all giddy inside. We chatted for a while longer, and he was impressed at how our cars cost under 40k... a testament to Nissan design.

Anyways, building off of what I posted this morning, I got the car back from the shop, had the 3M CF rear valence installed, and clear bra for a-pillars and headlights. Here's some pics... forgive the phone quality pics. No DSLR with me. I'll do a better photo shoot this weekend after a good detail. Am really loving the new rear valence look. Much needed to break up all that white in the rear. Draws the attention to my sweet pipes ;)

The 1st pic was also the spot where the old chap was parked next to me... sorry the shot was a little far and quality was low. I zoomed in on my camera phone from the bench across the street as we too ate some ice cream. Since there were a lot of folks out and about, me taking a pic of my own car up close on a busy street prolly wouldn't bode too well.

http://www.the370z.com/members/fromg...ence-3m-cf.jpg

The 2nd and 3rd pics are of the clear bra on the pillar and headlights, if you're thinking "What's so special about these pics?" That's the whole point... you can barely (if at all) see the edges. My guy made sure to go all the way to the edges... (p.s. now that I have seen his work, I am still debating whether or not to clear bra the hood and fenders.

Picked up some Blue interior LED's for the dome and trunk. Hoping it gives it a nice glow and doesn't make the car smell like Uncle Bens.

Nice! I love it when I receive totally unsolicited compliments! Makes me feel so good!

I like the rear valance! in for DSLR pics of it! I've been wondering whether I should get mine done matte, or gloss. I haven't really been planning on CF bits, but only because of the reported yellowing. Any idea how well the CF vinyl will hold up?

Thanks bud... I appreciate it. Yeah, I was totally taken aback by that man's compliment. It did really make me appreciate my car EVEN more than I already do. I just love my Z. Best car I have owned... thus far.

As for the CF bits, I used the 3M CF wrap. They actually come in diff't colors... way cool. Buddy of mine used the silver CF wrap on his silver STi to contrast it nicely. It wraps REALLY well, esp around corners...very forgiving. You just need to find a really good installer. Durability wise, I have not heard negative things. I have not heard of yellowing either.

The best part??? If you feel like switching or changing or because for some reason it did yellow, just have it peeled off!!! and put another! It's not permanent, like paint.... Also, I believe it's warrantied from peeling and discoloration anyways (3M warranty), just like the clear bra. I might be wrong. Someone else can chime in.

Thanks Econ... yeah, the clear bra is probably the best mod a car enthusiast can do on their cars... For me, I really don't like "edges" or lines... so when I do the clear bras, I do a "whole" panel...i.e. front bumper, a-pillars, mirrors, etc. It has really saved my bumper. I have ZERO chips after numerous highway jaunts. Also, it's warrantied as aforementioned...

P.S. What do you guys think of putting 3M CF on my mirrors? I don't want to go overboard... but my 3M guy was saying that would look great?!?!?!?!:ugh2:

Hey From. Had a few detractors post in different areas. A couple said they didn't like my flat black on red. Another post says that they think the vert is ugly. And ofcourse you have the many putting down the AT. As I said though I have never had a negative comment inperson. That includes the Imports at Carlisle with hundreds of people at the show. The good thing is that no matter what others say here I'm the only one that I need to please. And I'm very happy with my ride :tiphat:

kenchan 06-29-2011 10:05 AM

FromGtoZ- car's looking good! good job on the clearbra. i too sometimes find nicks up there on the a-pillar and sometimes the very front part of the roof. :icon14: not yet on my Z but ive seen them on my previous cars. headlamp clearbra's are a great investment. does your insurance give you any discounts for doing the headlamp clearbra? might want to check cause those lamps are EXPENSIVE to replace. :D

happytheman- the CF is probably your best choice (especially the FujimuraAuto rear diffuser cover thingie) but then again if you do the 3M DiNoc correctly it can look very good too. considering all the contours i would first remove the axle-back and paint the bottom side of the rear bumper (center section only) matte-black first before applying DiNoc or black vinyl. it looks pretty silly when you got vinyl back there but can see that the bottom-side was not applied. lol :icon14: believe me, people behind you will notice this. i clean the bottom side of the rear splash guards all the time because of this. :D

yah fire, if you're happy with your ride who cares! at least your wheels arent yellow or something crazy. ;)

That's alright Fire... to each his own opinion. As long as we're happy with our own cars. For example, I wouldn't do the flat black spoiler on my car either, but if you like it, that's all that matters. I just did the 3M CF valence on mine, and not everyone will like it, but that's ok.

Yeah, I might have my guy wrap the 3M CF stuff ALL the way underneath and deeper into the cutouts, but I am just worried about the heat emanated from our tips. Will that melt the vinyl overlay, even if not touching????

And what do you guys think about 3M CFing the mirrors and maybe the B-pillars?!?!??! Too much?

i think with air hitting the DiNoc you're fine just as long as you have at least 8-9mm clearance from the tips. it wasn't able to sustain engine-bay temps (engine cover reaching 180F+ ) but im pretty sure it can sustain temps in the exhaust cut-outs with air circulation. :)

i did my B-Pillars and they look great! but not sure about the mirrors... there's quite a bit of curvature so it may look too fake when you apply heat and wrap it around while pulling.

ok guys, im debating whether or not to drop the $1400 for the sport brake package.

do you think its worth it?

the main reasoning for me wantting them is cause i want my calipers painted, and the base calipers are quite ugly

i would spend that money towards coilovers (HKS or KW's) first and paint your base calipers matte black or something dark to hide. :)

then maybe later on spend money on LSD.

then maybe later on spend money on bbk.

I might differ from Ken and others, but I think the sport package brake system is well worth it. It not only is aesthetically pleasing, but it performs very very well. Nothing wrong with going OEM in this case.

Then after that, as mentioned, go with an LSD.

kenchan 06-29-2011 03:06 PM

the base brakes aren't too bad... especially for street use but i agree, the sports package is a good deal. :D

but i think econ's car is asking for lowering more than brake calipers...

Econ 06-29-2011 03:12 PM

well i cant afford to do both coilovers AND bbk, so its either springs + bbk, or coilovers + keep base brakes and paint 'em

hummm... that's a tuff call cause im not sure if you can get the higher quality c/o's for just 1400... even so you will still need to buy rear camber kit.

i suppose an alternative approach is get swift springs (which people seem to be happy with) + rear rods and paint the base calipers for now and save up for sport brakes later...(?) :)
