Me too!
It's in the mid-70's and the car is quite happy about that. Had AVB's ASOT on and I was inspired to take a long fourchan after work. I didn't want to come home!
Spotted a couple of 370's tonight, too.

kenchan, I like your plan, too, but I tend to avoid putting my tip money anywhere that it's accounted for since it never existed in the first place according to what I tell the IRS. ;)

Did you not have test pipes or high flow cats previously?

Footloose301 08-04-2011 10:23 PM

I had GTM resonated test pipes. My **** was soooooo raspy and loud. I hated it. If I did 90mph then I got a headache. Not to mention all the torque I lost. These Motordyne pipes are no joke. It's almost like I have stock cats but a lot more power and its a lot deeper too.

happytheman 08-04-2011 10:35 PM

So how do the Motordynes compare in sound to the stock cats? Their website said they are a little louder, but deeper. They also state that they are way quoted than test pipes and also quieter than HFCs.

Exactly as you put it. They are slightly louder(not much at all) than stock cats, but a lot more powerful. I haven't used HFC's, but my GTM resonated test pipes were ridiculously loud. These Motordyne ART pipes really tame the exhaust note. Its deeper than stock cats too. This is one of the best purchases I've made so far. Supposedly theres a 1500 mile break in period at which they will actually be a bit quieter and deeper. I can't wait. However, I've only gone like 20 miles on them so far. I'll check back with you guys after it gets tuned on the 12th.

Yeah i love my juliets. Those are classic. I have the ducatis.

So question for u guys. Is it possible to run these motordyne pipes with my invidias and not need a tune? I have stock intakes with wix filters. And these pipes come with cats? And purpose is simply sound and slight power increase?

Seems like my GTM non resonated TP's where not bad at all. The only time my exhaust got loud and raspy was when I removed the silencers. But I love it. Not for just anyone.

I run test pipes on the Z32TT. Get it inspected every year. Never had anyone lift it high enough to see them. Because it is a turbo car it is pretty quiet (at low rpm anyway), so no one would think straight through exhaust. That being said, VA does not have emissions tests. No way it would pass if we did and I would be swapping cats in once a year.

Alchemy- I like that wing. I had never seen it before. If I had a coupe, that is probably the way I would go. I like ken's as well, though. Definately between the two.

kenchan 08-05-2011 07:13 AM

Alchemy- nice Z. You sure you don't want CF back there? Would look :yum: with blue. :D

Lol, to be honest Im not much of a CF guy. Today I will be purchasing some black Plasti dip spray to do my fangs and rear. Love that you can just peel it off if you dont like it. Wanted to paint them for the longest time but feared not liking it. Didnt even think of Plasti Dip! Its brilliant!!

Here in PA we have visual inspection and sniffer testing for cars 1995 and up.
I get away with all kinds of stuff on my Miata being that it's old, but I wouldn't want an annual war with the demon bolts as part of my Z's maintenance routine. Guess it's HFC's for me if I decide to do any more power upgrades.

Good choice on the Manfrotto. I have one of those too.

BeachZTT 08-05-2011 07:28 AM

I drove the car to work yesterday and realized how much I really dislike the stock shift knob. It just does not feel right to me. I have to find a replacement. I love the shifter in the Z32...

To be clear-- not all of Va is emission testing free. Just so no one gets confused.

Yep. Nova gets super strict emission testing. Quite the pain!

I know a lot of people that have moved there under the impression that va does not emission test, and gotten promptly fined--just want to save that from happening

No. I'm in FL. It's still illegal and you'll get a "fix-it" ticket if theres no cats on the car but I'm not concerned at this point. I was nervous with the GTM resonated test pipes whenever I was near a cop I would shift at 3k rpms but know I'm not worried with the Motordyne ART pipes.

FromG2Z 08-05-2011 08:40 AM

Ken - pics of manfrotto when it arrives! I might have to get my own set then. I like how you are my 1st tester... whatever you get that you like, I get too. hehe...

Alchemy - that wing is definitely nice. The duck bill is growing on me. What brand is that anyways? Also, anyone have a pic of how it looks on your blue? Someone has to be running it?

As far as test pipes, someone needs to explain to me what those are in the first place... are they essentially straight through pipes that omit the cats or even HFC's? And the purpose is more power and more sound?

Beach - That shifter of your Z32 reminds me of my stock shifter in my FD RX7. I swapped that out for an RX8 knob :) But anyways, for your Z34, yes, I agree, I too hated the stock knob. It was too tall and bulky. Might I suggest the Nismo Titanium knob? I love mine... it's just the right height, and diameter.... can pistol shift or traditional shift (hand on top).

Z-wise, I QD'd her last night, in preparation for driving her today. I didn't dust all the panels because the lower ones just had too much dust. To avoid swirling, I just did the roof, hood and doors. Will wash her tomorrow anyways. But I did drive her today, so I am once again in a great mood. (p.s. also checked oil, so all is well).

Fire 08-05-2011 09:02 AM

OMG. :driving: I kenchaned for my Z 600 miles yesterday. That was after working overnight an 8 hour shift at the hospital. :ugh2: Drove and picked up a firetruck for our fire department. Amazingly after 12 hours from leaving that morning we got back and I wasn't tired:excited: Today have to get with my detailer and get it detailed and the wind deflector tinted. :pics: to follow. Oh and I got alot of  and a couple "what year is that?" "Man that is a sweet ride":tiphat: Got and returned a wave to a black Chrysler Crossfire at speed. I was going the speed limit behind the firetruck.

Yep, increase flow through the exhaust is the main goal. Byproduct is altering the note of the exhaust. The additional chambers on those pipes is the help eliminate the rasp and drone of striaght pipes so that they don't resonate at cruising rpm. The benefit is realized a little more in turbo cars as the less restriction in and out nets higher percentage gains.

Motordyneengineering.com I think......

I installed mine yesterday and they're great. I gained a lot more torque and it's almost too quiet now but that's fine with me. Less attention from cops. It's very deep now too. I'd say they're worth the money. A bit pricey but you won't regret it.

Well, I went for a short kenchan over lunch to a buddy's house... we looked over his Souveran'd Vette. That stuff on dark colors is a must.

But anyways, I walk back to my Z, and thought to myself, man, I love my car :D The lighting was just perfect with the sun and trees. And she was looking great draped in 50/50, with that wet-look... so I snapped a pic with my EVO, and also took a shot of my pearl paint (look Ma, no swirls). Man, I wish I had my DSLR today :(
