370Z comes with full synthetic?

When I bought my prelude the manual said honda put special break in stuff in the oil. However my 350z mentioned nothing about adding any special stuff to the oil.

Default Oil

Gang,

My 03 350 came with standard oil when I picked it up. I and I mean I changed it to synthetic at 500 miles on the clock.

Default Oil requirements

Nissan recommends Genuine Nissan ESTER Engine oil 5w-30.*
It is NOT regular oil, and it is not the same price as regular oil.
*nissan 370Z owners manual section 9-2 sub section *3.
So your local dealership was not misleading you or trying to screw you.

I was at the dealer today to have them install my front license plate bracket (see other thread) and asked them about the oil. They refered me to the above and talked about the ester oil. They charge $15 a quart and $11 to change it, so to me that's perfectly reasonable. Obviously you can run whatever you want in there, but I am fine with paying an extra $100 or so a year for the good stuff. After all I just bought a $40k car.

I found this thread over at myg37 if anybody is interested.

Any one know any thing about the Infiniti Ester motor oil? - Page 3 - MyG37

$15.00 a quart, that's such a rip off!

It's a rip, but I usually pay $60ish to run synthetic in my cars at the quickie lube joints. So for an extra $20 an oil change I play their game and give some business to the dealership who can certainly use it right now.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'm okay with it.

Business to the dealership, not after how I've been treated over the last few days....that's all I'm going to say.

I didn't buy my car from this dealer, but they were very helpful and didn't charge me to install my bracket today which they were entitled to do. Of course I would never give my business to dishonest folks.

Default Use the Nissan recommended Ester

Esters provide better lubrication because they are "magnetically" attracted to each other (molecules) and to the metalic surfaces in the engine.

Motul has some great info about esters

MOTUL

Essentially what the article says is that normal oil will only protect metal to metal contact while the engine is running. Ester oil, because of it's attraction to the metal surface, will continue to create a film on the metalic surfaces even when the engine is not running.

So in addition to it's ability to be "custom tailored" it prevents excessive start-up wear (this is usually where most of the engine wear comes into play).

As part of the perks my dealership offers at no cost is a lifetime engine/transmission warranty and oil changes for life at $19.99 using the Esther oil which is designed for the 3.7 engine.
