Who's buying an Auto w/Paddle Shifters?

Pfft they are talking about World's First Manual rev matching gearbox, haha

. I recently had a chance to drive the whole BMW line up(minus M3 or M5). Most of the cars were Auto w/paddle shifter. I gotta tell you, at the end of the day, when I sat in my car, I wish it had paddle shifters.

If you ask GTR drivers if they would ever go back to regular manual, they'll say no. But again they have DCT which is very quick and works just like or better than regular 6 SPD.

Those paddle shifters do look really nice. They are big too.

Drove the EVO X with TC SST the dual clucth auto box , quite suprised how fast changes occur .

I have always had manual cars but may consider the Auto depending on the type of gearbox it has

Those paddle shifters on the 370 Z are huge

I don't know how they are going to work. I'm assuming the right for up shifting and the left for down shifting. On BMW, as you put your hand on the steering wheel, three fingers upshift while the thumb downshifts. They basically have 2 for up shifting and 2 (where the thumb rests) for down shifting.

I liked it a lot. I def see me driving a DCT in the future.

I'm definitely getting an auto for the kind of driving I do; daily commute, weekend excursions to places hours away from home (that's Cali for yah), and speed runs to hang out spots all over.

I'm interested in the quality of the gearbox. The 350Z auto 'manumatic' mode is terrible. At wide open throttle, one clicks the upshift only to wait almost a full second.

The new Nissan Altima has the same mode, but the upshifts & downshifts are fairly instantaneous. The car will up & downshift on its own, however.

If the 370Z has a TRUE manual paddle shifter selected as opposed to the assisted manual, I may consider that.

Anyone have any more information?

I'd definately get the auto with paddle shifters. The manual is obviously more hardcore and more fun to drive, by I only drive like a maniac 1/4 of the time. The other times are in traffic to and from work, auto works better for me.

If you read the Motor Trend article that was released today, Nissan confirmed World's First Rev matching 6 speed gear box for the 370Z. Everyone is trying to come up with an idea of how the heck Nissan is going to program this. Basically what they are saying is that when you down shift, it'll rev match for you. That's all Nissan released. I'm still somewhat clueless and AM trying to find out more info on this.

Auto is def easier to drive. The paddle shifters will come in handy. My recent experience with BMW paddle shifter was really good. I didn't want to go to my 6spd car after driving paddle shifters all day.

Rev matching Sounds great in theory but programing the ECU with any after market mods will be a lot harder , plus being new teck i am certain it will have a few bugs that will need ironing out

I know. It's a big concern for many interested 370Z owners. This is brand new technology. I'm pretty sure you remember the whole transmission and tire featuring issues from the 03 Zs. If this is final and I don't like the way it works, I think I see 7AT paddle shifters in my future.

The more electronic controls a car has such as an Automatic rev-matching in a manual gearbox

gets me concerned , you know the old saying

" Its best to learn to shave on someone elses face "

certainly dont want to be amongst the early adoptees test pilots of this new tecknology .

The reason i did not purchase the 350 back in 2003 was based on the info i came across regarding the transmission and the front end problems that you mentioned .

Rev matching transmissions are nothing new. Companies like Ferrari, BMW, AUDI have been using them for a long time. Also, the Toyota MRS had a clutchless manual and also rev-matched for you!

Relax guys, I doubt Nissan's will be as sharp as the high end versions, but it will be entertaining.

I will take a 6 manual transmission (with a clutch)... you know the old fashioned way!
