Just link the Top Gear episode. :V
I cross shopped the 3 series. It isn't a sports car. It's a luxury coupe with sporting appeal. Also they lost all respect from me when they said the Miata had no soul. Are they kidding? Spec Miata? Probably one of the most loyal fanbases on the planet? I'd never really have one as convertibles aren't my thing, but damn. That's like saying Corvettes have no heritage. edit: also, I looked at the M3 -- it isn't the old M3. It's a great car, but it isn't the same feel as the previous gen. When he started his review like this:
"I was met someone this morning" I knew immediately I didn't care what this guy said. When he went on to use the words "awkward", "low grade" and "boyish" in his first paragraph I realized I was right not to care. The guy is biased. He never cared to review the car objectively or give it a chance. He really just wrote the whole thing so he and his forum buddies would feel elite with their cars; above the common and unworthy 370Z. So I just saved myself the trouble and quit reading. If I want to read something dumb I'll get a transcript of obama speeches.

A 335 is not boring by any means.

Ahhh I guess I'll chime in since I own both a 335i and 370Z.
Those euro snobs over there claim Japanese cars lack soul, well the 335i is my first German car and I'd say that it lacks soul. The 335i pulls pulls very strong and attains speed so fast with such stability that it just wasn't exciting getting there anymore. Kinda hard to explain. Basically I'm cruising 60mph, I pick a spot in traffic, floor it and I shoot out. Next thing I know I'm going 120. I'm like...the hell?, the engine didn't even sound like it tried. No fuss, no drama, no gratification. It's so stable that 120 feels like 80 or 90 in a regular car. The car has amazing steering feel, and handling that's for sure. Maybe what I'm trying to say is the car is soo good in what it does that it becomes unexciting. I needed a second car that would get my heart pumping again. Plus I was suffering from manual transmission withdrawal. After test driving the new S65 powered V8 M3 which btw was overpriced and feels slower in most daily driving conditions than my 335i, plus it was too similar to the driving dynamics of any other 3 series, just better exhaust note and worst gas mileage and ride quality. It left me unimpressed for the price of admission. I would never buy an AUDI because they are unreliable heaps of crap.. ![]() ![]() I always thought the 370Z was absolutely stunning in design, so I decided to test drive one. I was hooked after the test. Man did this car get my heart racing, driving position, clutch, gearbox, handling, steering. Everything just seems so RAW yet wrapped in such an elegant and beautiful high quality package. I still don't understand how Nissan is able to sell this car so cheap, this car feels like it's worth 50k compared some of the crap I've test driven. I get a huge smile everytime I get into the Z and hear that exhaust note come to life, It is suppose to be my weekend car but I find myself taking it to work every day now since I bought it. ![]() ![]() |

I have driven the 3 series (E46 and E92)..... Sorry... it is not as fun as the Z.....
The BMWs feel like I am in a full suit, giving a presentation to 150 people or execs. Fun to be sure... The Z feels like me wearing clothing to play sports in, running, tennis, baseball, etc.... While both are fun, I like the sport clothes feel, fun and relaxation more as opposed to the suit feel. |

I also crossed shopped the 335i, and although the interior is made with better materials, the layout is the poorest and the most boring of any car I'd looked at. The guy from the link was complaining about the interior materials in the 370z and then bought a car (S4) which is on par with ours in performance, but cost $20,000 more! With 20k to spend on custom interior materials I could make seats with panda bear skins stuffed with bald eagle feathers!
