Nissan 370Z Forum

Those with AT, what do you use for MT mode?

I think the question I have for you is, You're european and drive an auto? your friends must have a field day with you.

ok Im probably weird but I carried this over from my 2008 GTI that had DSG. Gears 1, 3, 5, and 7 I shift with the paddles. Gears 2, 4, and 6 I shift with the stick. When at rest or cruising my hand rests on the shift knob.

I dont get that at all, I had the Audi TT with dsg and never thought of doing that. Does the GTI have the sport mode too? When I got the transmission chip sport mode was a blast and I hardly ever used the paddles or stick.

There really is no purpose in it, I just like to keep my hands switching positions. :P and Yes the GTI had a sport mode as well. The one thing I hate about the auto Z is that the shifter is so ugly, I think that's the other reason I rest my hand on it alot. So nobody can see how ugly it is.

For spirited straight line driving or highway overtaking I always use the paddles, it helps that you don't actually need to put it into manual mode to use them. Being able to have both hands on the wheel while paddle shifting is a plus.

On the rare occasion when I use manual mode around bending town streets I would use the shifter, only because the paddles are not actually connected to the steering wheel itself, therefore the paddles remain stationary when turning and you can't always comfortably reach them. Unless of course you always downshift to the appropriate gear before approaching a bend, so it wouldn't really matter.

When just cruising I'm always in "D"

I use manual all the time with the paddles. Never used the stick in manual, I think if I did, I would use it like a stick shift and break it off trying to go through the H pattern.

Permanent "D" user here; at 61, my "shifting" days are over. Traffic down here's a killer, anyway. Greetings.
