Default A/C mode

I keep forgetting to ask this until I go to use the A/C and recycle then it starts driving me crazy again...

....anyhow when I select recycle it automatically turns the A/C on. When I turn the A/C off it turns the recycle off. WTF I want to turn the recycle and no A/C on because fresh air comes through warmer than the outside air so I'm blasting hot air in the car when cool outside air from the windows is what I want blowing around instead of running the A/C constantly....

Is this a normal function of the A/C and can it be turned off/modified?

This was asked and answered somewhere here once before. IIRC, the answer is that what you're experiencing is the way it works - i.e., no recycle with A/C off.

Really? i remember I was trying to figure this out for a while, I thought I did it, maybe I entered a cheat code or something LOL

or maybe I was just tired of trying and I pretended it was working

Yea I was searching around and didn't find it. Do you have a link?

It seems so odd to me that you don't have control over those functions - why have one or other if they are tied together...

I turn off recirculation all the time without having A/C on. YOu just have to make sure a. fan is off. b. vent selection is on "just front dash vents". If floor or the windshield is selected, I don't think you can select recirculation.

Thanks for the info - looks like the manual was missing the fan/front vents details I'll give it a try after work

Set it to auto on the fan. Set the temp a few notches off 75F, and set it to auto on where it blows.

I don't worry about it. I just turn it off when I take the windows down.

OK I can get it to do that but what I want is to have recirculate ON and the A/C OFF and have the fans blowing.... That way I can have the fans blowing air but not sucking in hot air from the engine bay or wherever the air gets sucked in because its hotter than it is outside...

No matter what buttons I push in what order I can't turn on recirculate without the A/C automatically coming on. Is there a way to have Recirculate but no A/C?

I don't think you can have the fan and recirculate on at the same time. Sorry

It sucks - I sat in my car for an hour trying to figure out how to get the fan/recycle working..... well OK 5 minutes and the other 55 minutes driving aimlessly around. I guess next time I'll have to drive up to Nanaimo and do a few drive bys under that sweet tunnel

...but seriously hear anything about the car with that web page you got?

Just got off the phone with the dealer, it looks like it's going to be a Xmas present. Production has stopped on 2009 models with 2010 models to commence in October.
