I paid $450 for mine, steep yes but if it saves two tickets a year with the resulting insurance increases it more than pays for itself. The GPS kicks azz since I no longer have to listen to false alerts.

I got the 9500, but I pass so many cameras on the way to work it was too distracting. Ended up downgrading back to the 8500.

He did flash me with radar, but my detector went off and I slowed down before he could get a good lock on. He said he knew I was over because the car I was passing on the freeway when he first spotted me he was able to lock onto. That car was going 70 in a 65. He just didn't give me a ticket because he also wanted to check out the Z.

I bought this same detector just before I embarked on my trip to MO and back from CA. Saved me several times. Almost no false alarms.

Last Monday I got pulled over by a cop driving the opposite direction on a highway.

I noticed him as I was passing by and I kept going, he didn't turn his flashers on right away but kept going for a little before he was able to do a U-Turn.

By this time I was pretty far ahead and thought I might be out of sight so I pulled over and hit a gas station and began to fill up.

He pulled up next to me as I was filling up and told me I was going 35KM over the limit which is 4 points and a 350$ fine. He asked me for my DL and registration/insurance and took it to his car.

I saw him on the radio for 3 mins, then he came back to me and said "Everyone needs a break from time to time, so today I'm giving you a break" handed me my papers back and walked away.

I can't recall the last time something so unexpectedly awesome has happened to me.

perhaps he let you go because he didnt manage to get a reading on his radar, or maybe the radar was off. if either of that happened, he technically cannot write a ticket

or because he lost site of him. The odds may be low, but it could be argued that there was another car of the same color that he really saw speeding.

I guess that must of been it.

I mean how can they fine you if they cant measure your speed

Is that a Canada thing? I know cops can do visual estimations here. Maybe that's a state thing though.

airplanes and the squares on the highway. i have been nailed that way too on the bike. that one cost me over 300.00. you never see them:confused:till it's too late and your on the side of the road

I've never had a problem with a cop before but I noticed that I was often being trailed/watched/etc when I started driving my 370. I figured that since I aim to make it loud and I also have a tendency to drove 5 - 10 over with traffic here that it might be a good idea to pick up a good detector.

I bought a 8500 X50 and pretty much love it. It works great. I've picked up a few cops from a half mile to a mile out so far. I've actually been surprised to see how many use X around here.

Way back when, I got stopped by a radar car who was on another stop as I passed them. He claimed that even though he hadn't laser tagged me, he spent enough time watching cars he could tell I was going over. Some of these cars do nothing but assigned traffic details. They get to know an approximation, and they can tell the speeds in their assigned wards or jurisdictions. It becomes their job.

I didn't get a ticket, but thats not the point. The point is yes...at least in this state, a visual estimation is as good as any other.

Pheonix 03-07-2010 01:31 PM

And to the guy (I think Sig111) who had the camera ticket for turning right on red...it wasn't that you turned right on red...it was that you failed to come to a complete stop, and made a rolling turn. Judging from the pics, it appears you also did it from the second to right hand lane, and not the turning lane itself.

Edit: Disregard the last. I didn't notice the curb straight ahead in your lane. I haven't seen many two-lane right turn roads.

Man I got pulled over a few times.

Got nabbed once for a 75 in a 30. It was midnight and I was riding up A1A to meet up with some buddies. The cop wasn't able to clock me as I flew by but he came up from behind me and paced me at 51. I saw him coming so I slowed down to a more reasonable speeding speed. He rode too and let me off with a warning.

Got clocked once for 51 in a 30, on A1A, in my buddies car at like 3AM. Got off with a "failure to observe a traffic device".

Got pulled over for improper eye protection once. I had my visor up and no sun glasses on. Got a ticket for that one.

Got pulled over for riding with my brights on at night. I flat out told the cop, I don't turn them off at night because I've been run off the road too many times by cars that don't see me. I said I'd rather be alive with his ticket then dead without his ticket. He just let me go.

I got pulled over for making a right turn at an intersection that was "no turns". I was in a unfamiliar town. The cop just said, if you actually have a motorcycle endorsement I'll just let you go. I do, and he did.

Got pulled over on A1A, again, by a cop who felt that my plate wasn't visible in it's present location, tucked under my tail. It is plenty visible however. He couldn't see it because he was riding my ass so close with his fuckin SUV. I brake checked him... hahaha.. then he lit me up. No ticket.

Got pulled over by a Sherif once on 95 South because I lit it up on the on ramp. I apparently blew by him at a high rate of speed (140MPH). He said he got me at 90MPH in a 70MPH. It took him a while to come up behind me due to traffic. I didn't even know I blew by him till he told me afterwards but when I saw him coming up behind me I knew he was there for me. I toyed with him a little though. I don't like to ride next to tractor trailers on the highway so when I get to one I wait until the car in front of my has fully passed the truck before I'll begin to pass it. So I just kind of hang back until it's clear, once the car in front of my has passed the truck, I usually gun it to dart by the truck as quick as possible. Well the Sherif was behind me and we were cruising at 80MPH until I passed the truck which got me up to around 100MPH or so. Either way.. the Sherif let me off. Not even a written warning. He just ran my info and then let me go.

I think this might be the last time but I left my house once, having a bad day already, and I gunned it in 1st, hit about 70MPH (30MPH Zone) and a Sherif nabbed me. He was running laser from his driveway lol. Let me off with a "failure to observe traffic device".

I think thats about all of them.

Togo 03-07-2010 01:51 PM

OH there was another time.. these two cars were redneck road blocking me and I was late for work. It was like 6AM. When a small hole finally opened up so that I could get around them, I took it and darted past them, I hit about 70 (40MPH zone) and a motorcycle cop was going the other way. He did a u-turn, came up behind me, and got me. No ticket, but I was still late to work. haha
