So I bought a new 2011 NISMO right after the 2008-2010 recession. I got a good deal on it after the typical BS at the car dealership. This was my first new Nissan.

Before making one payment on it, the paint started peeling on multiple parts of the car. I had to argue with the original dealer and Nissan NA to get it repaired. That is when I realized Nissan is a 3rd rate auto manufacturer. The paint started peeling on the repair and Nissan told me essentially to go pound sand. That was strike one.

My steering lock failed and Nissan refused that repair under the recall even though the part number was the exact same for the 2008-2010 models. People on this forum argued and said it did not effect the 2011's but it sure af did. That was strike two.

The one time I needed an alignment, I went to the dealership and rather than do an alignment, they took my GTM SC'ed car on a 5 mile joy ride. I had video and picture evidence to prove it. They could not even produce an alignment sheet. After making a colorful scene inside the dealership sales floor, someone in management refunded my money. Nissan NA again told me the dealers are "independent" and to pound sand. That was strike three.

Two years ago, my dash got a shiny, greasy appearance. The car had less than 40k on it and is 100% garaged. I research online and find out this a common problem with several Nissan models and to try your luck at the dealersh!t. Once again the dealer and Nissan NA told me to pound sand. That was strike four.

Now I receive a passenger airbag inflator recall notice in the mail from Nissan NA. I do exactly what the notice asks me to do. I waste 1/2 the day chasing my tail because the dealer says the recall only applies to certain states. Why the F is Nissan mailing recalls to Arizona if the recall only applies to certain states not including Arizona. That is strike 5 for those who are counting. It took me 4 calls including hang ups to get someone from Nissan NA to just tell me we made a mistake go pound sand and we don't care we sent you on a wild goose chase.



I do not care what the next Z looks like or how it performs. I will never set foot in another dealer or ever give Nissan a penny. They are struggling financially and I for one hope they go under. Screw their heritage. I will drive anything before I would consider Nissan again. So F you Nissan.

Unfortunately u got one of the bad apples. They should of taken car of it better.
But I did read the paint on these arent the greatest.

Whoa when I saw this username, I thought for sure somebody dug up a 7 yr old thread or something lol.

Sorry bud, sucks, but 2 of the 5 of aren’t Nissan exclusive. Dealership joyride happens anywhere, plenty of horror stories, and without any serious incident, I wouldn’t expect Nissan NA to do anything. Melting dash/plastic happens across many brands, from Ferrari to Toyota.

Whilst these things seem bad and they do suck, many relate to the dealership support (or lack of) and you don't mention any serious or genuinely expensive mechanical failures. I have friends with Euros that went belly up, including exploding DSGs, and they were left 1,000s out of pocket when the manufacturers refused to come to the party. It's all relative I guess.

Sorry for your troubles, but nissan was right in pointing out that the dealers are independently owned, doesn't make it any better but as someone else pointed out most of your problems were service related which is all on the dealership of your choosing and you are guaranteed to run into bad dealerships across any brand. As for the steering lock complaint i can tell you for a fact that my 2011 didn't have one, but then mine was produced halfway through the year. Sucks to see you go, but then again i don't really care since this is the first time I've ever seen your username and most likely the last time I'll see it lol

I have owned 8 new cars spread across 4 manufacturers over 35 years of driving. Domestic and import.

None of them had defective paint within 7 days off the lot or over the time I owned the car. Nissan can't engineer paint to adhere to the Nismo kit. I had someone who worked for Infiniti, who was a member of this forum, PM me back in 2011 and acknowledged this was a known issue with certain models. I got nothing but BS from Nissan because it was an $8k repair to replace, repaint, and install the entire kit.

None of them had an electronic failure that completely disabled the car. Nissan could not engineer an ESL or correctly implement a recall. My car was purchased in May 2011 and it had the pos steering lock.

All of them have a sh!tty dealer network but not as sh!t bag as Nissan.

Some of them had low quality plastic but none of them had a $1,500 dash crap the bed and most of then unlike the Z were parked in the hot azz sun 100% of the time. Nissan ignores or purposely uses low grade materials for the dash on several models. There was/is a class action lawsuit on Altima's manufactured when the 370 was introduced.

None of them sent recall notices to a state not included in the recall. Nissan NA must be run by some asinine morons.

Every car manufacturer has bad apples. The dealer should be held some what responsible for sure.

back in the day- paint on our brand new Ford Taurus just fell off the roof, hood and trunk within a month of ownership.

The paint on the roof of my 70 340 Duster blew off in the car wash when I hit it with the wand. My black 78 TransAm didn't have enough paint on the roof. In the sunlight, you could see the red primer through the black paint. The dash cracked on both my ford and chevy trucks.

Paint defects from the manufacturer do happen all the time. You had bad luck as you're the only case I've heard of this happening on a brand new Z personally.

Steering lock does suck, I would hope you would've done your research before hand and disabled the known faulty steering lock ahead of time but I guess **** happens, it is indeed a known old failure point of these cars.

Correct, Nissan dealerships are indeed *** and to be avoided at all cost.

You bought Nissan's budget sports car, are you honestly surprised some of the material they used is low quality?

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some legal requirement to send out that recall notice to everyone, regardless of applicable states.

My brand new 2010 Ford Mustang had paint bubbling and flaking off the hood in less than a year after I bought it. This was a known issue with aluminum body panels on Mustangs and Ford did absolutely nothing about it. Then there was the ABS module which basically would fail every 18 months or so. No fix for that either.

Don't even get me started on the steering wheel lock issue. You can ask any Corvette C5 owner about that. I had to install a complete aftermarket steering wheel lock bypass kit on my previous 2003 C5 because there just was no fix from the manufacturer. It wasn't a question of if it would fail and leave you stranded, but when. All corvette owners know this.

You probably were unlucky with your specific car and went through some bad circumstances but believe me, Nissan is no worse and actually better than average as far as a car manufacturer goes.

Yes sorry to hear of your issues even though they are service related. I knew all the dealerships were independently owned but you could possibly run into a bad dealership service department just about any where. Definitely be selective how you have service your Nissan or Infiniti. I do know our cars have some minor corks from the factory but they can be fixed easily and you can have a great running vehicle. Do your search here and ask questions if needed. In my experience my 370Z was actually one of the most reliable and dependable vehicles I ever owned aside from the few fixes I had to do. I owned some unreliable vehicles that were a whole lot worse. The 2005 Ford Mustang GT and 2013 Hyundai Azura I owned were probably the vehicles I ever had. The Nissan 370Z is an enjoying car to drive and own when done right. If you are not happy with your Z trade it in for a different vehicle you will like or sell it to someone how can appreciate owning a Z. I love my Z always will!
