Why was my thread moved?

It got moved because most mods on small forums feel pretty good when they are able to call you out on specifics. Taking into account that the 1st page of the general discussion section goes back almost 2 weeks, it obviously isn't really a problem. But they would rather move your thread into one of the other 30 subsections that no one really reads.

There is also the choice to look at all new posts, despite where they reside it will still serve them up for viewing.

Trips will leave the post there for a few days before moving it to the right section. Trips is pretty good about things.

is there a way to move the kind of members who does post some non-sense to a space where nobody can see them?
