Road trips are great.....if you can carry everything in a couple of roller-board cases for an overnight or two.
If your stay is longer or the distance is farther.... then you might have to buy laundry detergent because you won't be able to fit much in the car. But then lengthy road trips are why I would rent a car and the whole comment is mute.  Enjoy !
