Default NISMO vs the gutless wonder!! 86

https://youtu.be/Kcl2q_Ix2Ks

I remember watching Chris Harris take a shyt on the Zed while he sucked a lot of Toyota dyck. So I went running to 11 dealerships b4 one would give me a test drive. My first thought was.... I'm supposed to want this over my 370z? And laughed hysterically. It was the day I realized even car media has CNN syndrome. The Z us a superior car. Maybe koni shocks and Spec R springs was the tipping point that made the FRS feel like the handling wasn't as better as they claimed? The Z's problem has been its front heavy and it has slop coming out of corners. But the suspension mods greatly improve that problem.
The 86 imo is an inferior car in 4 out of 5 ways. I'm glad it exists but... Chris Harris Is the propaganda press. We dont need a CNN in the automotive world.

The Nismo is still relevant till this day.

I drove both back to back repeatedly while shopping around.

I legit thought something was wrong with the first 86 I drove. The power actually DROPS in the middle of the power band. I thought the clutch was slipping.

That said, for a daily commuter, the 86 is fantastic. It gets great mileage, has the maintenance costs of a Corolla, and you can toss it around like a go kart. Honestly, a lot of the time, the Z feels like too much car for city streets. I rarely get to stretch its legs outside of backroads and onramps.

They're different cars for different people.

That is true. The 86 would be great in NYC where the fast you can go most days is 55? If it can absorb the potholes well?
As for power usage... I'm at 440rwhp on my camaro and j have loads of fun on the streets as I did with my Z. I believe both Z and camaro have a lot more in common than people think. And one of those things is amazing gearing. Both cars have been geared for both low speed and high speed fun. I feel they both have a special duality to them despite having a lot of power for what they both are.

The 86 is ok. It's a good little romping car. But I dont think it deserves all the hoop lah its had for years. It's funny some ways but it's mostly a gutless car. I guess j like cars with power...

Huh? A slug? I think the supra will be the car to beat. I'm almost sure of it.

$60,000 for 330 horse (taken at the crank) and 155 top end is a slug.

And I won’t even mention how ugly it is...

Slug? Quarter mile was tested at 12.00 @ 118mph our Z will need a turbo kit for those times lol

I've driven both extensively and love both, but whereas the 86 is a fun novelty, the Z is a purpose built cornering machine. If I could only have one car, it'd be the 86 due to space, mpg, and its tailhappy fun under 40mph.

Sorry for the zealousness, the Z replaced my bmw so comparatively the Z's cornering ability is astoundingly good.

I too replaced my e46 M3 with the 370z. Honestly, the M3 is better in all categories compared to the Z The e46 M3 motor is amazingly smooth and interior is better with the napa leather etc... Yes, I do know that the maintenace is much higher for the M3.

The main reason for the replacement was because I really like the look of the car (my 3rd Z) and it was new to me while the M3 was old at the time.

It's probably not a fair comparison as the M3's MSRP was in the $60k's

Mine was an e36, and a 328i not an M, so your comparison is different from mine, though that's inconsequential given the subjective nature of your statement. While I'll give it a nod for balance, exhaust note, and obviously engine smoothness and torque curve (with the melodious straight six, none of those were ever up for debate), power difference aside, it didn't corner even remotely close to the Z. It was easier to feel out the limits though, whereas that certainly takes time in the Z. Interior, meh, no different from touring other than the wood finishes and inferior HK stereo (moonroof was nice though). Having only test driven new 335s back when I was looking at the Z, I can't really give any meaningful feedback on them other than the fact that their footprints felt WAY too big, their body roll was noticeable, and there was some lag in the throttle. I also didn't appreciate the lack of that analog mpg counter at the bottom of the instrument cluster. Obviously the e46 didn't suffer from that shortcoming to the same degree, but even it was a pig compared to the e36 size wise.

To counter your point though, in Motortrend skid pad tests the e46 m3 had a lateral g rating of .86 whereas the Z (sport package) pulled .91-1.01, so with respect to cornering, your memory of the e46's cornering ability may be a bit hazy. Also, the e46 m3 was only a $45k car so the comparison seems fair enough.

The Z is the greatest car of all time. It's so perfect that they didn't even give it a telescoping steering wheels, because the wheel is in the optimal position for precision maneuvering.

Yeah crapping on the Supra was so 2 weeks ago

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=galowNnKOl8

That's not a slug. 0-60 in supposedly 4.1 seconds. Not many cars do that, with a RWD V6.

As for the 86. I feel like that's beat to death. Each to their own and there's nothing wrong with liking it. The only annoying thing is when fanboys try to glorify it for more than it really is.

It's that excuse/sugarcoating bull**** that comes with any fanboy.
>"Derp but my 86 is lighter and funner"
>"do some mods to a Miata and it beats an S2000!"
>"get some COBB for my WRX and it's an STi!"
>"muh Golf is Euorpeein"
>"if we get an oil cooler + CSC repair + srpint booster +RJM + stiffer front swaybar our Z is proper"

I don't know when the car consumer society will learn to outgrow this stigma. In the end, yeah most of us would have Ferrari's or whatever if we could afford it. There's nothing wrong for enjoying what you have, but you don't have to go out of your way to justify your purchase.
