Say it ain't so. I went to a Z show and a guy had an LS in a 280z. Must have seen the chagrin in my face. Said it makes it go faster. Hey, he spoke to me, I had said nothing. I said, then why not get a Camaro? It's a cool car. The engine is the heart of the car. The Z is a sports car, not a drag racer. I also have a 68' Barracuda, 360, and see LS's in everything, some even GM. Would we put a Ford 351 Cleveland in a Camaro? A 429 in a Chevelle? A Mopar 440 in a Corvette? No! The Z guy insisted the LS was cheaper. I said he had no soul. If I bought a Porsche 911, guess what engine I'd want under the hood? As a teacher I heard the "drop in the LS" thing from high school students all the time... their lazy default. It's like rooting for the Yankees but you don't live in or near, and have never been there. It's okay, but it takes no imagination and is about as original as discovering we breath air. I had to school a lot of young people almost all who could not fathom why on earth anyone would Drive a Z. Don't you want a Ford or Chevy truck, Mr. s, they would intone. Oh brother.

I have a Dr. friend that used to tinker with Scarabs. That was before he decided that he would probably be a better doctor than a wrench turner.

This rarely happens to me but yesterday I was stopped at a light when a jacked up pickup with oversized "off-road looking tires" rolled up next to me and started revving his engine. When the light turned green, he hauled ***. My wife asked what was his deal and was he wanting to race. I just said "yes" while shaking my head.
When we caught him at the next light we noticed that not only did he have his wife with him but a young (6 y/o?) daughter standing up looking out his back window which had been slid into an open position. (He also had his windows down--either he loves listening to his exhaust or he can't afford A/C.) When we saw his kid standing up, we just look at each other and simultaneously asked, "WTF is wrong with him?" |
