My bad on the aluminum comment had to recheck my facts. However that still leaves my 2nd point, the reason why you wouldn't purchase this over a new vehicle is

My bad on the aluminum comment had to recheck my facts. However that still leaves my 2nd point, the reason why you wouldn't purchase this over a new vehicle is that you 1)would not feel as comfortable with a car sustaining this amount of damage 2) new cars feel different than a car that was repaired. Thankfully for the OP its a lease but $16K in damages isn't what I would call minor.
