Default Oil change quick question

SO I have my Z that i rarely ever drive as it sits in my garage looking all pretty and stuff! I looked at my oil change sticker Z1 put on my windshield and i last got my oil change (redline oil) on Feb 8th of 2016 and i have only put on 302 miles on the car since..... In your opinion, should I change the oil again as its a year old, BUT..... only has 302miles on it??!! The car does run slightly rich after the test pipes were installed, but oil looks clear as day and looks perfect still. What do I do? IF I dont have to spend 100$ I dont want too LOL!

My rule of thumb is 2-3k miles depending on how hard you drive it, or 3 months. But...i might just be over cautious haha.

Send a sample to blackstone labs and ask them? My car is a toy, so it doesn't get a lot of use. Blackstone still recommended I change the oil at one year even if the mileage doesn't call for it.

Unless you have extra virgin olive as your oil which has expiration date, I don't see why you have to change the oil.

Regular old Dino oil does eventually break down over time, even just sitting around, and the additives in it lose effectiveness.

Synthetics have a bit more stable shelf-life, but aren't immortal.

If I were you I'd get the oil changed anyway; $100 is cheap assurance to prevent my driving around and worrying about it.

Better safe than sorry, as they say.

Just go to a place that recycles the oil, so you're not causing unnecessary stress on the hippies.

Oil is cheap, motors are expensive. To me it's cheap insurance. My Z isn't in that boat, but I have some other vehicles that are. I have one that got 62 miles on it last year, it will still get changed this year (actually ordered the oil this week since no one carries it locally). As mentioned if you want to try and stretch it out, the only way to know for sure if it's still doing it's job is to have it analyzed by a lab (thats how I found out Amsoil wouldn't go 8k in my daily driver).

Now for the dangerous part.... haha

( Click to show/hide )

And not to start an oil thread, but you can get five quarts of Mobil One is $25 at Walmart, another quart will run you another $6, a quality WIX filter from the parts store will run $8, plus another few bucks in tax, your still talking $40? Even if you think your current oil is "better" are you driving enough miles to care? Then it's not as much of an ouch on the wallet every year.

Before anyone says I'm not being brand loyal to Mobil, it's just an example I'm throwing out.

I've never used the the synthetic stabilizer, but I know the regular oil stabilizer I've had problems with in motors that didn't have lots of miles. It's just too thick for them. Now in worn motors I've lots of luck with it. In my Jeep before I rebuilt it, it bought me some time. It works great in differentials, transmissions, and transfer cases, but that's just my what I think.

Personally, I'm just using Mobil 1 as is in my Z.

On a side note, the Lucas Gun oil is pretty good stuff, especially for being cheap, if you find that in store with the Lucas stuff.

the syn oil stab is very thin, nothing like the conventional oil stab... that stuff is like liquid gum

Interesting, good to know. I hadn't tried it strictly because I always assumed it was the same as the regular oil stabilzer. I still use the regular stuff for certain applications, just not in motors.
