I purchased my Nismo S-Tune spoiler and Nismo exhaust from Nissan and they gave me 15% off and only charged $120 for install. Some dealerships are better than others.

I like my Z without one but I decided to take a try and I ordered a nice spoiler that looks just like the one that comes with the sport package for about $350. However, I sent it back when I saw the numerous holes that had to be drilled in the trunk for installation. The installer scared me off, warning of broken seal in waterproof trunk and possibility of rusting around the drilled holes. It was beautiful and I'm not sure what to do. What's involved in the installation of the one you're buying?

Old guy,

If you look at the DIY section for the install, its not that bad.. for the rust issue just some high quality silicone in the holes when tightening down the spoiler.

The DIY took about 3-4 hours while taking your time.

They gave you a template right ?

Bumblez, I'm also curious as to where you got it and if you have any pics of the final product.

Yes the template was included but I was bothered with the prospect of those several holes that had to drilled in the trunk. The Nissan body shop manager scared me off and talked me out of the install. Do think I was a victim of a conflict of interest there? I thought they would be the best for installation as they know the car best. How is the spoiler installed when it is a factory add on with the sport option? Are there driulled holes?

When they install the spoiler at the factory they do place holes in the trunk.

Old guy,

Yeah Im assuming that you were a victim of conflict, you can probably find a nice body shop around your area to install it without question.

The holes also come from the factory because they also have to have to drill in order to install the spoiler but with the rust situation is where they scared you off.

I guessing from the factory they predrill for the sport models or they drill for the spoiler after the fact of the hatch being assembled.

Hope that helps... I thinking they are just covering their a$$es since it is a after market spoiler.

Thanks for your very flattering vote of confidence, but you don't know me! I'm a pretty decent 62 year old lawyer but I can't even hammer a nail in straight. I love collecting and driving cars and I care for them very conscientiously and responsibly but I can do no maintenance or repair for myself and I wouldn't dare take the chance of mangling my beautiful new Z by trying to install a spoiler. Possibly I will find an honorable local body shop and give it another try.
Thank you guys for all your help.

I don't know if the 370Z has anything additional that comes with the factory spoiler, like an underbody diffuser of some sort...the reason why I say that is because with my G35c, I was debating between the OEM vs replica spoiler, but decided to go with the OEM because of the LED brake light strip (the replicas' brake lights were a lot duller looking and alot noticeable at night when compared to the tail lights), and when I picked up the spoiler, it came with 4 pieces of underbody air diffusers....I asked the guy at the Infiniti dealership, and he told me that they are a part of the G35c OEM spoiler...and of course, you don't get the diffusers with any aftermarket replica...
