Default Engine ticking permanently after hard acceleration

Hello, when I bought the car, I'm using Royal Purple 5w30 engine oil and K and N oil filter. I'm using Exxon Premium gasoline.

The engine was smooth until today.

I did a W.O.T hard acceleration when passing a semi-truck on a 2-lane highway.

Now I can hear a small ping/knocking sound especially during idle and soft acceleration.

Did I mess up the valve train or something? Oil is still full.

Thanks.

Can you take off the spark plugs and examine them?

Maybe the W.O.T. 'blew' of the Carbon from the intake valves, make it less cushion between the Seats.?[just joking].

How violent is the knock? Does it only occur during idle/soft acceleration? Does the knock stop if you press down on your clutch during idle? (If you have MT)

If it's a "light" tick, probably normal. I'd try barncobob's suggestion and put some fresh gas in the tank. If that doesn't help, I'd try the Nissan ester oil - it's supposed to quiet the noisy Z valve train.

If it's more like a knock, I'd get a mechanic to look at it ASAP.

When I first bought my Z I heard a slight ticking noise coming from under the hood at the rear of the right cylinder head. I thought I had a valve train issue until I discovered it was the purge control valve letting in fuel vapor into the engine from the fuel tank. At idle it sounds in rhythm with the RPM's. When you hear the noise open the hood and see if the noise is coming from the rear of the right cylinder head. If so, turn the engine off, then start it again and see if the noise goes away. I noticed if you shut the car off if the purge control valve is ticking/operating and start the engine the purge control valve shuts off.

I go to a busy Exxon station. Exxon Premium fuel is top tier. The problems happened after I passed that truck.

Not a knock but a little ticking noise. I can hear it on idle and soft acceleration. I cannot hear it when I go faster because of road noise. I have automatic.

This time I put fresh Shell gasoline (Top tier) and drove 50 miles. still pings/ticks/knocks. I've used Mobil 1, Royal Purple, and Valvoline Synpower with K and N oil filter. No noise until after I passed that darn truck.

My vehicle does not burn any oil and it is always full. I check it 3 times a week.

Interesting. The knocking stopped when outside temperature went below 70 degrees.

I had a tech a NTB tell me I should have my engine looked at because I was getting "spark knock"

Of course, he was simply referring to the VVEL chatter that is prevalent on these cars. I told him to stick to tires and batteries
