My hearing is so poor, I'd need subtitles to hear any high pitch noise from the engine!

I haven't bought my 370Z yet, but I'll be sure to listen to see if the car I'm test driving has that sound, and not buy it till Nissan comes out with a fix. That sound is soooooo damn irritating, that I'm sure I'll get a headache everytime I drive it.

Here's the link to the G37 site....
High-Pitch/Frequency Noise Poll. - Page 16 - MyG37 Look back a few days...a couple of the members have been recording the sound on laptops and iphones and running it thru spectrum analyzers. You'll see that the actual sound graphs were posted and both show the noise at 10kHz. I hate this noise with a passion, so I'm looking for help from the Nissan side since you guys are having the same issue. When it really comes down to it, who really cares about all the "mods" etc. on either forum as long as we have this issue that ruins our cars. For non-believers, read the charts on the G37 site then go to the 10kHz post site that one of your fellow members posted earlier and see if you can hear the noise. If you can't hear the noise on the site, you still may have the issue and others who ride with you may be able to hear it and hate your ride due to the noise. You can always download the app to your iphone and check to see if you have the same issue. I'm like all of you, sick of posts that are going nowhere where members report taking their cars in and someone them they are "aware of the problem and working on a fix", while never mentioning a service manager's name or a specific dealer. With the sound analyzing tools, we now can not only prove there is a noise via a spectrum analyzer, but thru actual recordings of the aggravating sound. What do you think Nissan and Infiniti would do if all of us went showed up for service with actual live proof that there is a problem? We wouldn't get the "can't replicate issue" and "you'll have to schedule an appointment with the service manager to see if he can hear the noise" responses. Is any of this making sense to anyone? |

I'm not sure why anyone would make up a story about their service center claiming to have a solution, unless Nissan is using shills, which I highly doubt. There seems to be some denial on the list that problems can occur with this car, which isn't very helpful. Granted, I don't want to see the list become a bashing board with every minor gripe being blown out of proportion, yet when real problems surface we need to, as a community, look into it. We shouldn't ostracize people who show up with information and appear to genuinely try to help.

I have never heard this noise in my Z, and thank goodness for that, because that is one ANNOYING sound!!!! I have newfound sympathy for those of you who have this going on in your Zs.

Any high-frequency hearing loss, Semtex?

Not that I'm aware of. My wife swears I have hearing loss, but she doesn't realize I'm just ignoring her.

I have been putting off taking my car in hoping that a TSB was soon to be released. That would mean I wouldn't have to go in and argue with the dummies at my dealership that there is a noise coming from the ECU. However, I am not sure how much longer I can stand this stupid noise. I like AM radio in the mornings and at lunch, but usually listen to music in the afternoons which will cover the noise.

I have taken mine in. You want a name and dealer? I think John, the older service manager couldn't hear it. Sean, the younger manager, got in and heard it right away and called it "annoying." This is Russ Darrow Nissan in Milwaukee. There are your names.
They reported it to corporate, I called the Consumer Affairs line and talked to Lisa, my MW CA rep. She went over to the Infiniti office and they confirmed this was a problem. Lisa told me that they are working on a permanent fix. She didn't know about a TSB issued, nor one coming. Just, "We are working on a fix and you are not the only one with this problem." Russ Darrow Nissan, who has been very, very nice, is watching their TSB list every day, watching for the ringing TSB. They said they would call me THE DAY it came out. They offered to replace my ECU if I'd like, but we decided to just wait until there's concrete evidence of a fix. For now, I will wait. LSUTurboTiger has the description right on, and Jungle and the G37 crew has the pitch, 10kHz, down to perfection. Those of you who can't hear it, you are lucky. Your ears ring for well over an hour after you get out of the car. For those of you who don't know, this is a problem not only on the 370Z and the G37, but I also heard it in my sister's 2008 EX35. This is affecting most Infiniti's with the 3.5/3.7, and of course, our 370Z. I haven't checked if the Max, Altima, or Murano are having it. Honestly, I have not been able to hear it in my 2009 FX35 yet though, though some on the FX forum have been hearing it as well. I don't think the FXers know how big of a problem this is for a lot of Nissan and Infiniti owners. I think I've done all I can for now. If Lisa told me they're working on a fix, I believe her. Why would they just say that? They said they were working on a Nissan Motorsports Oil Cooler before it came out, and they did it. I don't see them 'lying' about this. The point of this... The fix can't come out soon enough. Last edited by TheWeatherman; 11-18-2009 at 09:31 AM. Reason: Adjusted 10Hz to kHz |
