I buy mobil 1 full synthetic on amazon. I think I paid 27.99 shipped for 6 quarts the last few times. I change every 5,000 miles. I run OE filters on the 370z, they're cheap enough at about $6 ea. On my other Z I like the purolator/wix filters. Enjoy the drive.

My car is a daily driver. On occasion I do get on it, but it spends most of the time in the first 2/3's of the rpm range. I change oil about every 4K miles or once a year. No need for any gourmet oils here.

that's fine. Though I should say that it IS recommended to use ester based synthetic engine oil due to DLC coated internals. But I'm sure you know about that. Just to be on the safe side. Though most use Redline, there ARE member like you who uses off the shelf regular oil.

I've heard that they haven't recommended ester oil since 2010. I'm pretty sure i read in my FSM that mobil1 is recommended by Nissan.

Isn't Mobil 1 the factory fill oil for the GTR? Why would Nissan recomend ester oil for the Z and not for the higher output GTR?

Baseline recommendation by Nissan is any oil that meets API-SN or ILSAC SF-5

GT-R...they recommend Mobil 1

Quote:
NOTICE
  • Mobil 1 (0W-40) (100% synthetic) is the factory fill oil. The VR38 engine with its plasma-sprayed bores was developed using this oil. NISSAN cannot ensure proper engine operation and durability if other 0W-40 synthetic oil is used. If Mobil 1 (0W- 40) is not available, Mobil 1 (10W- 40) (100% synthetic) may be used; however, some performance loss may be noticed.

It depends.

For example, Mobil Oil currently has a promotion for 5qt jugs of a variety of engine oil lines. My 5w-30 and 0w-40 are regularly priced at just under $27, but it's on sale for $24 and I got a 15% coupon, so after tax and after the $12 rebate, my effective out-of-pocket is just $10. The highest I usually pay is about $25 for a 5-qt jug. Sometimes I buy Valvoline or Pennzoil synthetics when there is a sale or a rebate.

For filters, I buy in larger amount. I stock a few filters for each of the vehicles I own, so I get to use a 30-40% off coupon code from Advance Auto Parts. The effective cost for each filter is around $5-6 for Mobil1 oil filters. Sometimes I buy WIX from Rock Auto when I have a larger order.

How much do I exactly pay for a DIY oil change? Well, I'm unsure, but should be cheap enough by using that method.

Been using Mobil 1 (5w-30) + either Napa Platinum or K&N long filter...(41356 or HP-1010) every 2500mi. @ a cost of around $40

That price is about right. I pay $90.00 every trip I make.

As for the OP's question: you can order Nissan Genuine ester oil (5qts) and a filter or Red Line (5qts) and filter from z1motorsports.com for $60 each.

Castrol 0W-30 with Mobil 1 or K&N filter. I swear by it.
