Oil change prices
I was wondering what everyone is paying to do their own oil change, and best places to purchase oil/filters? I picked up 6 quarts of Redline 5w-30 and a purolator pure one filter for $85 (@ wholesale price $11.24 a quart vs full price $16)
Is everykne paying this much or even more? I miss $40 oil changes on my old 09 VW GLI |

Usually Purolator filter is $6. So $72ish plus $6 = $78. (+$1 for crush washer). I'm at 97,xxx miles (started at 3,600 miles) and 450+ autox runs and few HPDE later, Z pulls like brand new. NO issues with that Redline and purolator puro 1 combo
Some of our vendor carries the Redline fluid. If not, I buy from Summit every now and then. |
Walmart Pennzoil ultra (or the new platinum ultra - Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic 5W30 SN Motor Oil, 5 qt - Walmart.com ), + nissan oem filter. ~$35 give or take.

SMH... I'm not sure I'd use anything other than race oil on these things... I.e. Red line or royal purple... But that's me brotha if you happy with that and your car is too then power to you. I only say it because just last oil change I put in Quakers top oil, I usually put royal purple, and I've noticed the cars oil temp runs hotter than usual and heats up slightly faster too. My personal experience, idk about yours so I'm just throwing it out there. |
I've been using motul from inception (15k km to 39 kkm) and my tuner said I must have a very healthy engine.
I guess I don't drive it hard enough =X |
Change your oil every 3k miles religiously and you can run any name brand synthetic but, redline gets my vote

I buy mobil 1 full synthetic on amazon. I think I paid 27.99 shipped for 6 quarts the last few times. I change every 5,000 miles. I run OE filters on the 370z, they're cheap enough at about $6 ea. On my other Z I like the purolator/wix filters. Enjoy the drive.

My car is a daily driver. On occasion I do get on it, but it spends most of the time in the first 2/3's of the rpm range. I change oil about every 4K miles or once a year. No need for any gourmet oils here.

It depends.
For example, Mobil Oil currently has a promotion for 5qt jugs of a variety of engine oil lines. My 5w-30 and 0w-40 are regularly priced at just under $27, but it's on sale for $24 and I got a 15% coupon, so after tax and after the $12 rebate, my effective out-of-pocket is just $10. The highest I usually pay is about $25 for a 5-qt jug. Sometimes I buy Valvoline or Pennzoil synthetics when there is a sale or a rebate. For filters, I buy in larger amount. I stock a few filters for each of the vehicles I own, so I get to use a 30-40% off coupon code from Advance Auto Parts. The effective cost for each filter is around $5-6 for Mobil1 oil filters. Sometimes I buy WIX from Rock Auto when I have a larger order. How much do I exactly pay for a DIY oil change? Well, I'm unsure, but should be cheap enough by using that method. |
