In, California cops have to have a certification for Radar Gun Calibration with them, because cops have figured out ways to ramp up the speed that it reads on a car to write a ticket. Otherwise if they pull you over and say they shot you on the radar gun doing like 88 in a 65 and they don't have the certification, I get to tell them to have a nice day and roll up my window and proceed without their opinion afterward. Of course if you just take off and say bye they are going to think you are running. I have had a phrase memorized for a while cause I was pulled over 3 times for "speeding" and they all shot me on the radar and none of them had the certification.

"Officer, I understand your rationalization for pulling me over this [morning, afternoon, evening] but due to State of California regulations, all Radar Guns have to be calibrated and officers of the law using a radar gun must carry the Radar Guns Certification and must furnish documentation if requested by the Driver. If the officer is unable to furnish the documentation for the Radar Gun Calibration then there is no infraction due to the Radar Gun not being calibrated. Have a great rest of your day officer!"

They are supposed to say Have a good day back and leave, but if they give you issues you start recording.

That's when you get the 4 point ticket haha. Exhibition of Speed (burnout) and wreak less driving. Both worth 2 point in CA at least hahah.

no wonder, they weren't in your Z haha

Kind of not really. Now I am licensed in CA for everything except Mortgages and Mutual Funds, done lots of extra work to be where I am, but what you were talking about was something State Farm does on a national level most of the time. So i'll do my best to help you out here.

1 thing that happens when cars do get older or there aren't many around anymore, prices for replacement parts do go up since State Farm uses OEM parts in replacement during a claim. If the replacement parts for a car go up in price or become harder to find classifications for the car go up causing a slight increase in premium. That more than likely ISN'T the bulk of that premium increase you saw.

On June 22nd 2015 State farm had incurred a 5% rate increase across the board; now I know that was the percentage in increase for CA. I have had to handle a lot of customers calling in about the same issue you had though, I know a rate increase seems unfair, but from CA standpoint I looked at Average Rates and the last 20 years worth of rate increase/decrease and this is the first rate increase that State Farm has seen in just over 15 years.

Ill PM you some options you can look at to help premiums for you hopefully.

Nice cop. You are lucky. Some cops are jealous and they will give you the ticket.

phew, lot of weird information in this thread.

speaking as someone who has been on both sides of those flashing lights..

what I'm about to say goes for Canada only, as I don't have experience in the US. You should never speed, but WHEN you do, because everyone does it, try to avoid going 15 over. It depends on your province, detachment, mood of the officer, mood of the officers boss etc.

if and when you get pulled over, turn the car off, turn your music off, roll down your window in advance, have your license, permit(registration) and proof of insurance out. this includes taking them out of whatever little plastic protector you keep them in.

be polite, but don't say anything obviously incriminating. don't make excuses. If any other Canadians ave questions feel free to shoot me a pm

I had this happen in the Z although I was speeding pretty good. Warning for 48 in a 35 mph frontage road just before entering the highway. He didn't talk my ear off or anything, but he was definitely into it and gave several compliments

I even gave some stupid excuse like I was speeding up to merge on the freeway, and here I am pulled over on a half mile long single lane entrance ramp He said "yeah right ... this car probably gets up to highway speed in 2nd gear" I gave him a sheepish look and said I could get her up to about 60 mph in 2nd if I wanted

This. I've never been fined for the actual speed I was traveling, just the minimum amount.

I drop my windows, have my wallet and paperwork on the dashboard in full view, radio/car off, hands on the steering wheel when he walks up, so he has a full view of my hands and is put more at ease.

Then I speak in a respectful tone. Not being a **** does wonders for interactions with people.

My best ticket story... 3 tickets in one day in 3 separate states in 2 time zones

Respectful is always the key. I got out of a 'go to jail' ticket (100+ in a 75) by pulling over as safely as I could, shutting everything down and having paperwork ready. The sheriff asked me if I knew why he was stopping me and I said "yes, I did something stupid". He told me what he had me on radar for and I asked him if he wanted me to exit the vehicle. He said 'no, I'm only going to write you for 'basic speed'. It's a $185 ticket.' I said thank you. 15 minutes later, I'm on my way to Wichita. Now he flashes his lights and waves to me when I pass where he sets up.

When I was shopping for a new motorcycle I narrowed it down to a Yamaha R6 and a Ducati 848. When I got insurance quotes the R6 was more expensive, even though the 848 costs more (not to mention it costs more to repair). The explanation I received was that the R6 is more popular and has more "incidents of claims" than the Ducati.

Go figure.

That's another thing, most states run their insurance as a whole and fluctuates its rates on cars based on the amount of claims for the car. It could be easily that rates didn't go up because parts are harder to get but more or less more people who have your exact same car crashed this year lol.

My Evo X draws a lot of attention and I am always with the flow of traffic on the hwy or the speed limit on local roads. Glad there are cops like that out there.

Thank you for serving

I have a license plate frame that will be mine until I leave it to someone else, probably my kid in the future, like my dad for me.
It is a Lifetime Member 11-99 Foundation License Plate Frame. For everyone who knows what that is and what it's for you know where I'm going with this haha

But the 11-99 Foundation was a Charity organization where people could donate to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to help and provide emergency service to CHP officers and families in crisis. Those are also the officers that mainly patrol freeways and are the ones that run those long 18 hour shifts you hear about from cops. There were 4 levels of charity to this organization.

-Classic: $2,500 for yourself + $1,000 for spouse
-Bronze Tier: $5,000 + $1,500 for spouse
-Silver Tier: $10,000 Spouse included
-Gold Tier: $25,000 Spouse Included

My dad ended up in 2004 donating the Gold Tier amount to the 11-99 Foundation. To this day he still has the wall plaque signed and dated by Spike Helmnick who was the Police Commissioner back then, the Laser engraved Brass 11-99 Foudation ID inside a Wallet with a slot where my dad keeps his Insurance ID cards. He puts his Drivers License on top of the wallet with the brass ID and the Insurance ID cards, with registration underneath.

I use the License plate frame on my car and have done so since I got my license 3 and a half years ago. I have had 3 separate CHP officers on the freeway, pull me over for something and would ask about the license plate frame and would tell me "Thank you for your contribution to our foundation", tip their head/hat and walk off.

I've also know that that license plate frame has gotten me warnings and plenty of times where cops have gotten behind me get really close to run my plates, saw the license plate frame, change lanes to the side of me and drives off.

There was one time my dad told me that he was sadly.. driving drunk, and a CHP pulled him over and probably should have gone to jail that night, but when the officers saw his 11-99 Foundation Badge they gave him a police escort home.

Being respectful is the best way to win with the law.
