Default Windshield repair kits

Got a rather large rock chip a week ago and it looks like it might start to spread soon. I know you can use those "free" places and your insurance will cover it, I believe my policy is once per car. I would rather just buy a windshield repair kit if I can just in case it happens again.

So what is the best kit, and where can I buy it?

On a new car I would want a new windshield. Had that happen to me right after I bought my Audi TT and it bugged the hell out of me so I had a new one installed. Have you googled that stuff to see if it really works good or not?

Well I would gladly buy a new windshield but currently there is only one supplier, and that is Nissan. I know someone contacted them and they quoted them around 1,200 USD for a new one? I figured if I can repair it for now and it works, I can always buy another new one in a year or so if the problem returns.

Thanks for the link, will read over that.

The kits work pretty well depending on the damage.....For $10 it's certainly worth a try..

I can describe it but it might not make sense, but here we go:
~The glass seems pretty deep on the Z windshield so the upper half has the impact of the rock chip, and the lower half has the spread of the impact it looks like. From the inside of the car it looks black from one angle as if there was a bug on the windshield.

Safelite Auto Glass - Windshield Repair Guide

Their process looks pretty good, especially compared to the syringe do-it-yourself kits.

I can vouch for the $1200 new from Nissan. Also I called a local shop to fill it since the new one was so expensive (my wife just had hers fixed a few months ago) and my insurance covered it. The guy did a great job though, I can barely tell it's there.

Whoa...My wife's P'finder just got a new windshield thanks to some douchebag that threw a rock at it! $135.00, including tax. I guess the price ain't that bad, but we sure didn't have it on our budget! My Z has a quarter-of-an-inch sized chip on the lower right-hand side of the windshield, and it hasn't "grown" at all, so I'll wait and see what happens. I hope I don't have to get yet another new windshield for her!
