If you're doing it on jack stands in your garage, I can attest that it is a pain in the a$$. It took me two full days with knowledgeable help. If you've got access to a lift, have the tools, and have some experience, it will probably be much less of a pain. Absolutely replace the master cylinder at the same time. That $900 figure seems a bit high to me, but it's not so high that locations with higher shop rates wouldn't be in that ballpark. We have $80-90/hr rates around here, so transmission labor should be closer to $500-600. But if shop rates near you are pushing $120 like they can in some parts of the country, then $900 might be a decent price. Figure book rate is seven hours of labor or so.
