Default Some Sales persons w/o knowlege of the 370z?

Here in Orlando, by Dec. 30 a Nissan dealer in the area called me to let me know that they already received the 370z, that if I was interested I was invited to take a look of it.
That afternoon, I stopped by the dealer, unfortunately, at the time I was there, the car was at the car wash, they told me to go on the 31st, and it was kind of impossible because of family bizzz.

Anyway, the point is, at the time a got to the dealer, as usual, a sales person went to me and gave me the routinize introduction. I asked by the 370z.... and the first thing that went out from his mouth.... I LIKE BETTER YOUR 350Z... and I was like... ok, its your personal opinion, but not a qualified argument if you are trying to sell something...
Then, I asked some details from the car, such as some information about the Transmission, Engine, Overall Dimensions, Packages, etc... Thing that you (if you are checking the forum constantly) and I, know, but are questions that no matter what, you do them.
The sales person said to me... It is basically the same thing as your 350z, just have a bigger engine... I was like expecting a little bit more from that answer. Then I began to tell him what were the common differences between the 350z and the 370z that have being discussed in this forum, and the sales persons told me, wow you know a lot of the 370z, I have to check it out........ I HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT!!??

I think, in my opinion, that a Sales Person, at this specific time, must know almost everything about the product that they are trying to sell, in this case the 370z and even more when this Sunday the Follow the Nissan tour will stop in here, Orlando Fl.

Random...

Same experience with you guys?

That is how a lot of sales people are. Not just at Nissan either. I've gone to look at/test drive cars at Nissan as well as other manufacturers or even go in for a service and find myself in conversations in which I want to jab myself in the eye with a dull spoon. I initiate conversation hoping to find mutual automotive enthusiasm from a car salesman and come up disappointed.

Did you really just figure this out?

Car Salesmen usually know very little in regards to the products they sell.

funny you posted this, I had the same experience in the VW dealership. young kid with his collar popped leaning against the car trying to talk to me about a car he knew nothing about. Nevermind his unprofessional attitude and appearance, he knew nothing about the world of cars except for the fact that he was leaning on a Jetta. I'm suprised he even knew what a car was in the first place.

They're all like that. Salesmen must have gotten by well prior to the internet age. But nowadays its more difficult to do when a wealth of info about the car is available online.

I do all my research before hand and it pays off. A few years ago when negotiating a car I wanted a specific option that I knew for a fact was combinable with the packages I wanted. The salesman disagreed and said it wasn't. After going back and forth a few times I told him to verify it. He came back and said I was right. I don't trust those guys at all so my advice to anyone planning a car purchase is to do the research yourself.

This is hilarious... It makes me chuckle when I hear things like this. Just before I found my current employer, I tried to get a sales position at a Nissan dealership. I told them I went through automotive school (UTI), had worked with a lot of the local tuning shops, and I had extensive knowledge on the Nissan platform. Also, just about every job I have had since I was 14 has been a sales oriented job. The manager told me that I didn't have enough experience, and would have a hard time selling cars. Riiiiiiight..............

Yea, the 370 is basically the same...except...the list is waaay too long to post. You gotta do the research yourself bro...I think dealerships kinda know this now-a-days and just hire order takers and "let me talk to my mgr" runners. Personally, I spend quite a bit of time researching something I am going to spend $40K+ on...I dont think I have ever walked into a dealership without knowing exactly what car I came in for.

Did your salesperson at least tell you about the voice activated eject seat?

My salesmen at Santa Monica Nissan told me that there was a Grand Touring trim available. This was while I was already sitting in a fully loaded Touring with sports pack. He went on about how it has more kick and bigger brakes. It is one thing if you don't know about something, but why make it worse by just making crap up? Rookie mistake. Obviously I was a well informed customer, I had been talking more about the car's features than he was.

On the plus side, no markups and custom orders were said to take 2 months.

One of the most knowledgeable salesmen I've run into was actually a woman in Colorado. She was great fun to talk to, knew her stuff, and didn't try to pull anything. I felt bad since I was just looking over the holidays and had no intention of purchasing from that dealership as it is 1200 miles away.

The nissan dealer and Infiniti dealer anr in the same building where I am . My Infiniti sales man was great knew all about the car. it was a good experiance. On the other hand me and the wife stared talking the a nissan sales man about the 350 that was in the show room and then about the new 370 coming out. He told me that the 350 was 410 HP and that the 370 was not coming out until 2011. lol. He then told my wife the 350 color matched her eyes and she would look good in that car. I let my wife handle the sales man while I complaind to the general manager about the sales man. The GM was great and appoligized for the incident . the sales man was new and on probation.
