The throw out bearing is loud at idle (clutch depressed) and when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I've heard it pretty much from day 1, but I know what it is, and know that it's not uncommon in most cars. Damned Nissan.... good trannys, not so much with the clutch (or viscous :P)

This is without a doubt the loudest new throwout bearing I ever heard.By the way in order for a throwout bearing to make as much noise as this it usually needed to be replaced.Normally this loud means a faulty throwout bearing. My first nissan but they definetly dropped the ball on this setup.
It is the norm for this car so we have to live with it.I hate to hear what it will sound like with maybe 50..60,000 miles on it.
Did previous 350 Z cars make the same throwout bearing noise?

you should hear the throw out bearing on the mx5, some owners have reported on the mx5 forums that it sounds like a diesel sometimes. all up this is no problem, i have had my mx5 now for 42,000 km with no issues.

Makes me wonder if the Z's lack of sound deadening materials has anything to do with the loudness factor, even regarding a noisy throwout bearing . It certainly has to do with the tire noise I experienced on my test drive over some sections of highway. Totally depended on the road surface.

Like most car owners, when I initially heard the sound I rolled the windows down to hear it better. No deadening material involved at all. I don't really like to think about the people I drive by either on the sidewalk, in a parking lot, or driving with their windows down hearing my clutch that loudly. Like I said though, no mechanical issue, then oh well. The occasional rattle from it when pushing in the clutch pedal in 1st is more annoying than the idle noise.
