I thought you said you paid $70. What did you get for that if they didn't use synthetic? Full synthetic is what you want. Dino oil isn't bad for it - just not ideal.

Yeah so $35 was for the blend (aka semi-synthetic). Your use of the term synthetic there was confusing.

or what if the "professional" messes something up, either by ignorance or intentional? some places, not all, will either:

1. claim they performed a service, but really never did, but charge you anyway

or

2. they will perform a service half-@$$ed, and then break something on purpose just to squeeze more money out of you.

again, not all are like this, but i personally would never take that chance.

Default Oil Change Places?

Stripped bolts. Cross threaded. Oil spilled all down the engine and exhaust (starts smoking on the way home). Grease hand prints. Uncertainty! Fast drained, leaving a lot of old oil.
Hummmm,
BUT, I have never found one of those "$40" synthetic oil Chang places. And a quality filter (Mobil 1, Purolator) is just as important as the quality oil.
Synthetic Blend? NONE of the manufactures say what the blend is? 50/50. I don't think so. 10/90 % . Who knows?.

Exactly, in an ideal world Id be having my oil changes done at a store. Unfortunatly been burned too many times in my life and I cannot be asked with the hassle anymore. Id rather put up with the hassle of getting dirty and oily instead.
