“We haven’t yet decided anything about next-generation Zed should be anything larger, or more power. We need to take another path,” Nakamura added.

“We have GT-R. If you compete with the high performance, we have GT-R. You cannot beat GT-R, so Zed has to be fine it’s own way.”

Admitting that the gap between 370Z and its replacement could be similar in time to the three-year pause between the 300ZX and 350Z — contrary to some reports that suggest the replacement is due sooner — Nakamura says the Zed can’t simply evolve like the GT-R.

“I feel [next-gen] GT-R is more evolution but I feel Zed needs more revolution than evolution.”

I think an AWD Z with an electric motor on each wheel and no drivetrain would be amazing!

Wow they haven't even decided if they even want a new Z... Let's say they do decide to make another one I'm thinking 2020? Nissan now sells overpriced niche sports cars. Don't even have a car in the segment to compete with a civic si, fiesta st, wrx, gti. New focus rs coming a out, a new Miata, a new golf r.. Nissan is getting left in the dust.

If what he said is true, and it COULD be a bluff, but IMO, I dont think we will see a new Z for a few years. They just arent ready to compete. 2020 seems like a good pick. Damn. So long Nissan.

I gave up on waiting, might as well save up for the next Infiniti Q60 or a 2017 Nissan Z.....
