Another section this would be useful and effective testing I'd like to see would be along the front nose to the sides, where canards are usually placed. The gain from a a true canard is from a swirling turbulance created along the open wheel well, reducing drag by discouraging further air from entering the high-pressure area. Dive planes by themselves are not often efficient in the drag they create.
Every time I look at the nismo nose I can't help but see the resemblance in aero design to a canard effect. There is a reason you see the same design on all of the Nissan SuperGT cars (GT-R too). Another area to examine: our oversized mirrors. What are they doing for or against us? I have a suspicion they help reduce drag caused by running with open windows (a motorsports staple). Gotta give credit to the engineering behind our [relatively cheap] cars. |
