Default Tanabe Exhaust on a Nismo

Hey I just recently purchased my Nismo and I'm trying to do some basic performance upgrades with an aftermarket Intake and Exhaust. The intake will be simple enough since there are only to obvious choices that everyone recomends, either a Stillen Gen 3 or an Injen. On the other hand to my huge disapointment the Exhaust has turned out to be a total nightmare. Apparently the Nismo has some slight differences from the regular Z when it comes to the exhasut and non of the major aftermarket Exhaust companies even know if there product will fit the Nismo bc they were all fit tested for the regular Z! Its hard enough to pick an exhaust as it is with all the diff options that are available but it really gets irritating when the manufactor cant even tell if the exhaust will fit! The only one i know will fit for sure is Greedy but im really interested in the Tanabe exhaust. Ive heard the Tanabe exhaust tone on youtube and it sounded like pure mechanical genious but i dont know if it will fit and no one else does either apparently. If anyone has any info regarding this matter it would be greatly apprecaited! Thanks in advance

It'll fit. After all the nismo is just a base model with a body kit. Baker Tuning here in Houston loves that exhaust, I am sure they can tell you if they have installed one on a nismo before.

Have you heard/seen F.I's exhaust?

More than likely it will fit. There are just 2 things that would be different. One would be that you would be going from an H-Pipe to a Y-Pipe where the left and right side of the exhaust merges. Also the total length might be a touch shorter. Only because the Nismo versions are a little longer in overall length.

Did you do a search on the exhausts that the Nismo owners are running? Some have gone with F.I. with no problems.

The cars chassis is the same length as other Z's what makes it longer are the bumpers. Any exhaust should work.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Ron i have allready spoken with Paul over at Baker Nissan and he doesnt know for sure if the Tanabe Exhaust will work or not for sure. He has made a few phone calls several days ago and is awaiting replies but still isnt 100% percent sure that Tanabe will work. He has a Nismo setting in his shop right now so im hopping they can take some measurements I find out for sure if it will fit. No I havnt heard the FI Exhaust persoanlly or on you tube but ive read that it is a bit loud and raspy! XLRBSN, U are correct about having to switch over from a H pipe to Y pipe design but also the Nismo uses a different bigger sway bar than the base model 370Z so there may be some clearance issues between the Exhaust, the sway bar. Baker nissan says they have but a Greedy exhaust on a Nismo before and its a true dual set up which will be more cost effective but everyone agrees the Tanabe sounds better than Greedy. How would the FI compare?

FI could be loud with no resonators. You can choose between 12'' or 18'' res. I have 18s. Absolutely no drone nor rasp. This is how it looks on a nismo:

This is the video that sold me on the setup I have:

You should come to one of our meets so you can hear it in person. Best all rounder exhaust out there IMO.

i think as long as you change everything (y-pipe and pipe back exhaust) you should be fine. The one on the nismo version car has an Hpipe right?

Ron, Thanks for the feedback and pics of the FI exhaust. I like the sound of the FI exhasut on youtube but theres alot of static and distortion in the background. Do u know when the next 370Z rally is and where it held. Im gonna look up prices for the FI exhaust online. If u happen know where i can find one cheap please give me a heads up. Thanks again.

Jollygoodchap, yes the stock exhuast on the nismo 370z is a true dual H-pipe design but it is not the same exhaust as the Nismo S-tune exhaust. The S-tune Nismo exhaust is and upgraded exhaust package that u can buy from nissan but it retails for about $1800 dollars and ive heard very little feedback about them.

There is at least one for sale in the classifieds on the forum here. I believe it has the 18" resonators.............

Default Moving forward

Just letting everyone know I did to go with the FI Exhaust! I listened to the audio clips on youtube and read enough reviews to convince me that was the direction i needed to go. Tony over at FI was more than helpful and very knowledgable. The FI cat back has already been ordered and now its all about the waiting game. Normally i would not sign up for a 2 month waiting list but im short on bucks right now anyways after paying for Christmas, my Colorado ski vacation, and valitine's day. Not to mention its time to pay Uncle Sam again! i HATE PAYING TAXES! IM still undecided on weather to go with High Flow Cats and stock headers or step up to the big leagues with Long tube Headers. Its about a $900 price difference just for the parts plus i will have to pay someone about $600 to install them when i can probably get HFC"s and Cat back Exhaust installed for next to nothing. FI claims there is about 12- 15 additional horse power if i go with the long tube headers. Any comments concerns?

I'm waiting on my F.I. LTH and CBE from Tony. Hopefully in about 2 weeks. I'll post up on what I get out of it.

True, just that some people didnt like the look if the exhaust tips were a little more "tucked" under versus not. Just was a "heads up" kind of a thing.

Ashton-I am sure that you will be happy with the FI versions though. Congrats and enjoy your ride.

On another note....did anyone go to F.I. and get a H pipe made? I need to get an OEM length H pipe replacement.
