As for them telling them it's a "special" car, every car is "special" when you buy it, but useless when you trade it. Don't buy into that and just handle the negotiations as if it was any other car. I had some dealers try that on a 40th as well...

FYI...when trading in, dont tell the sales guy that you're going to trade it in. negotiate the deal first, then tell them you want to do a trade as well.

yea Cell..I'm expecting to get 6 for it on trade-it...I understand that dealers are tough on giving you the higher end on a trade. Whatever the difference to 10K I'll put down cash. I want to put a little over 20% down total.

I wasn't aware of the tax savings on a trade in..good to know I'm in PA.

The drop in insurance makes sense on the safety aspect..my car has absolutely no safety features aside from airbags..but its worth 30K less so I'm not too sure on how insurance figures that one out?

"nismoracer"...I completely agree that the trade-in process is waaay easier than getting toyed around with people....almost worth the say 2k extra you make on private sale...but on the flip side I have had people offer to buy my car after I say I'm looking for a new car, so it might be easier than expected to sell. I might test the waters for a week and see how it goes..low mileage preludes are hard to find nowadays..let alone in good shape.

Honestly I wish I could keep it (lude) as a DD but I need that extra trade/sale value to get my monthly payment within reason. The NISMO will be my DD but I work only a couple miles away and have a SUV for bad weather or DD if needed. More than likely the NISMO will be a sunny weather car covered or garaged.

The OTD price is always misleading when comparing across states, finance rates offered by dealer, etc. In California for example we pay nearly 10% sales tax and licensing fees are very expensive as well. Id also argue that anyone with finance rates over 5.75% are funding the dealers as they make money on financing as well. Dealers offering anything over 6% can be making thousands of dollars more than sales price. Also if a trade is involved what was it sold for? Dealers will sell below invoice all day if you give away a good trade in far below wholesale value. Then there is all the BS dealers try to sell you like extended warranties, paint protection etc.

Id like to see details missing on much of the numbers OTD offered on forums when people quote prices. The sales price of the car rarely represents true cost unless you walk in with cash and no trade.

One follow-up question regarding dealers....

Can dealers request to have a NISMO brought to their lot? Meaning, if I don't see any NISMO's around for sale can I go to my local dealer and request to have them find me one? Is this something that dealers can do? And would it cost me somehow?

Not meaning to specifically order one from factory but rather find one on another lot?
Furthermore, is it easier to just order one and if so, is it tougher to get the car at invoice if you do order it?
I have no experience or knowledge when it comes to actually ordering a car, obviously.

i think that is how it is done. when i ordered my nismo, i showed them the printed summary of the car with the color and options i wanted. they looked in the computer and said they could get such a car and a day later, i drove it home.

Yea, definitely. What they will do is do a dealer trade with another dealer that has the car you want. Expect them to drive it to the dealer you bought it at, so expect some extra miles on it.

If you can get them to flat bed it then that would even be better but expect extra costs.
