Thank jesus for the Spoiler option.... I would avoid this like the black plague without it.

Fun Fact:
It does not hide things from the Tapatalk app. So if you are using that... avoid this thread at all cost.

The awesomeness continues...

As I state last week, HBO saved George R.R. Martin. A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons were decent IMO, but they also belied the fact that GRRM was a bit wandering where he wanted to go. The first three books and the TV series were equal, but it is apparent that the TV series is going to have a better, more concise story. Just look at HBO's track record: The Sopranos, Rome, Boardwalk Empire, Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers and The Wire (my god, The Wire is the best, most unseen TV show ever). This can only benefit The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. I am excited about both!

Bronn and Jaime as sparring partners...brilliant! Roose and Ramsey Bolton (Snow)...awesome! The death of Joffrey...spot on! I am kinda bummed that Penny and Pretty Pig aren't in the series.

On a sad note, the guy that played Ser Ilyn Payne, Wilko Johnson is dying of cancer Dr. Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson has terminal cancer - MSN Music News :(

First off great show, I have been waiting for something like this since Ned Stark was taken from the show, The King is Dead. I personally think it was the Fool Knight who did it. (Please no one tell me who did it, just throwing out my thoughts on the kings murderer, aka Hero) Show is going to get real as Joffery was married and Margaery Tyrell-Lannister so she is now the rightful ruler, so should be interesting in coming shows. SOOOO happy HBO said the show is locked, aka will be produced through Season 6.

:happydance::happydance:

I agree, only more emphatically. I've read plenty of fantasy series over the years, and it's not uncommon for an author to hit upon some success, and then milk the hell out of it. It's rare enough when success happens, and it's hard to fault an author for doing it. But it's still never a good taste in the mouth for the audience.

I felt AFOC and ADWD were awful. They slogged on about nothing just because he opted late to split it into two books and needed filler. I greatly dislike his change from having every chapter named and centered on a main character, and instead now brings in some ancillary characters, sometimes completely throw-away. And it also means I can go 20 chapters before getting back around to the ones I actually like. Including more characters can be nice, but man it bloats the content.

And it suffers from that same problem that other milked fantasy series experience: nothing happening. Sure some things happen, but it's a long slog to get there, and it's typically just end-of-book things...major milestones GRRM needed all that filler to get to. Busywork for major characters that really doesn't matter much.

And by the end of ADWD, we have supposedly just two books left, and I struggle to think of how this could all be wrapped up in two more books.

Yeah, they've really condensed down the idiocy GRMM insists on building in his books.

I mean, I'm all for added detail and building the story, but especially in FoC (haven't read DWD yet) it was awful 80% of the time.

I did not expect Bronn to be sparring with Jaime. Let's see what creative licenses HBO takes with this. Probably won't stray too far from source material, but it's hard to imagine that Jaime can get away with sparring with Bronn for so long versus the mute Ilyn Payne as he does in the books.
