Game of Thrones

God damnit. I hate it when i really like a series and then i gotta wait till next season.

WhiskeyHotel 06-21-2011 09:23 AM

This series is well done. The season finale was incredible.

phelan 06-21-2011 05:44 PM

I can't wait for the book this year!

Lemers 06-21-2011 06:08 PM

I hope it comes to Netflix like Spartacus did. I don't have HBO either.

Under a month unless I'm mistaken!

I watched the first episode and was pretty disappointed, but I think that's because I keep comparing it to the book.

From the sounds of this thread it get's a lot better?

daisuke149 06-21-2011 06:37 PM

well the series is really good. i wont say its 100% like the book but its jsut as good in its own ways. Im glad though that the first episode was a bit slower just because then they dont rush into any story lines. Its very well developed.

Also, if anyone was closer :p i'd give youa ll the episodes in HD

phelan 06-21-2011 06:50 PM

no, it leaves out details from the book. which should be obvious, the books put together are thicker than an encyclopedia lol.

but they've done a DAMN good job with the source material, and have stayed relatively faithful to it.

I hear ya, it's been what 8 years now? Apparently he actually finished the book in Feb-March this year and the release date has been posted with a countdown since May.

Here is a link.

A Dance With Dragons: The Latest Info (inc. pub date!) - A Song of Ice and Fire

Cmike2780 06-22-2011 09:23 AM

This is a great show. The settings and visuals are phenomenal, especially for a tv series. The acting is really top notch. This is my new favorite show... aside from Top Gear (UK) of course. Haven't read the books, but now I really want to.

For those without HBO, ask a friend who has it to let you borrow thier cable account. You can watch the entire series on HBO Go. It will be a while to get to Netflix or even iTunes.

SmoothZ 06-30-2011 09:15 PM

The books are great, too.

I'm going to try and catch up on the episodes for now, but I'll have to read the books.

Drex 07-12-2011 04:57 PM

a dance with dragons comes out today

Cmike2780 07-12-2011 07:44 PM

I just started reading the books. Really great read so far.

Yup, so far so good. Picked up my copy this morning.

topdrive 09-20-2011 07:11 AM

I have just started reading it and looking forward to finish it soon

Cmike2780 09-20-2011 09:56 PM

I'm on the third book now. This is a really fun series to read, I only wish I had the time to read more often. Can't wait for season 2 of the tv series. I hope they have the budget for battles this time around.

SgtGoldy 09-24-2011 09:07 AM

Love the HBO series, now I needa grab the books. Didn't know they were so popular

KaienZ34 11-20-2011 08:54 AM

Season two starts in april.

Rooster89 11-20-2011 09:49 PM

Have you checked out the books? They are damn good reads.

Rooster89 11-20-2011 09:55 PM

No i haven't, but i tend to stick with the incarnation i come across first so i won't read the books until the show gets cancelled.

I hear ya, i was already reading them before the show. The show makes the books so much better, because as you read your mind puts all the names and faces together automatically.

Plus the books are good when waiting for the next season to start.

Rooster89 11-20-2011 10:22 PM

Thats the thing, I have discovered this series in the TV incarnation, so I want to be surprised by plot points. Like the end of season 1 blew me away. Way i see it, if i enjoy it, why should i read the script ahead of time :)

Because, as much as I liked the show, the book was FAR better. There is so much going on in the Game of Thrones plot that you just cannot cover it in a 10-hour show. They skipped over a lot of subtle details completely that really add to the story and make it even more interesting.

Yup, like how they marginalized the wolves way too much in the beginning.

Yeah they did. You could almost forget about them completely.

That and they barely touched Bran's dreams he was having about the raven with 3 eyes and whatnot.

Compromise. Read the first book and then wait till the 2nd season is over to read the 2nd. :D

MightyBobo 11-21-2011 09:14 AM

I'd prefer to know the FULL storyline and see just how well they follow it, than to watch a watered down version of the full storyline first. But, thats me.

The first time I read the series, I could not understand that whole dream sequence in Winterfell. I must have reread the surrounding chapters like three times.

I hope they are able to keep making the series though. The great thing about the books is the almost extreme amount of character development you get, Arya being the immediate and most well known one.

Add in a dash of political intrigue, lots of violence, and main characters actually DYING for once makes for some good fun on HBO.

I liked the dream sequences, personally.

Good fun, and good storytelling. Because how often do you see main characters who actually have a chance to die? You never know what will happen next...have you read book two yet? Or just book one?

phelan 11-21-2011 12:28 PM

actually i'm halfway through feast for crows. i've forgotten a few characters though, i slowed down in an effort to make the series last until dance with dragons came out. then i picked up a few other series, and...yeah.

Cmike2780 11-21-2011 03:12 PM

I'm also up to feast, although I've been reading less often because I pretty much breezed through the first three. I'm hoping they have the budget for real battle scenes for the future seasons instead of the lame sequence in first season where they cut it out entirely.

MightyBobo 11-21-2011 03:49 PM

Ive only finished a Clash of Kings so far, mainly cause I need to study for promotion :(. But the 2nd book had tons of "Holy ****" moments, fo sho.

Rooster89 11-21-2011 09:30 PM

maybe i will pick up the books....

Just get the first, and give it a shot. I can almost guarantee you'll want to press on.

phelan 11-22-2011 01:01 AM

every time i watch an episode i just want to punch sansa in the face.

in the book, it's even worse. stupid bitch.

Rooster89 11-22-2011 07:03 AM

There does seem to be excessive nudity/sex in the show. kinda bothers me and doesn't always feel like its fits, a little forced.....

Edit: dear god, just read what i wrote :rofl2:

Wife always walks in on those parts and is all "what the heck are you watching". She thinks at this point its just a bunch of ppl screwing lol

Cmike2780 11-22-2011 08:01 AM

^^ I think you're just reading it wrong. Just imagine all the female characters as naked models.

Hahahaha, wait til you read the first 60 pages or so of book one. When I read that, I immediately said, "yup - I know why HBO picked THIS up...".

Its actually less than whats in the book I'd say, and the book is even more descriptive...
