The only visible change I'm likely to make before then is installation of the carbon fiber B pillars - I bought the pry tool and plan to attempt replacement this weekend.

Berk exhuast, you already let the cat outta the bag.:p

Aniceh, if you have any doubts about installing your b-pillars, call someone for help.

I figure I'll check it out on Saturday so if I'm out of my depth I can hit up the local dealership for assistance (or replacement clips, since those seem like the most likely thing to break).

Yep, Berk. I gave the ARK DTS a look, but it was heavier and more expensive, with lower gains, so Berk it is.

where'd you find the gain info for all the exhausts?

aniceh 04-02-2013 11:36 AM

Exhaustive searching. I think ARK estimated DTS gains of 12-14 whp.

Edit: no pun intended. :p

My notes are at home and I don't remember exactly, but it was a little more. Something like 14-16.

Yeah, it was damn near impossible to get actual specs on that system. There was no dyno data and I think the weight came from a buyer, not the manufacturer.

aniceh 04-02-2013 12:13 PM

I'll give Tony at F.I. props here - he lays all the data out for you to see. I wish the other manufacturers would make it so easy.

XwChriswX 04-02-2013 12:13 PM

Most exhausts are going to be within the 12-17 window of hp gain +/-2. So really you're looking at Sound/Looks/Cost/Labor for this car.

eastwest2300 04-02-2013 12:13 PM

a berk exhaust? :icon08: wowww...

:iagree::iagree::iagree:

XwChriswX 04-02-2013 12:17 PM

Berk has good gains, and good sound. I almost bought Berk way back, before they started having issues with shipping, and people getting mismatched sets. Those issues have all been fixed now, but when I was in the market they were not my top choice.

Plus personally, I prefer the \_/ style of F.I. over the = style of Berk. I like to see those cans. :yum: But Berk does have good sound, low cost, and good gains. The slight weight disadvantage really didn't bother me considering I have a hundred pound sub box sitting right on the rear axle anyways. Berk was my #2 option after F.I.

That was my conclusion. I believe they're roughly comparable on ease of install and looks, but the Berk is quieter (which I think is good for me), cheaper and marginally lighter.

It's good that you leave weight savings for last as you'll beat Most of the people in this thread already on driver mod weight savings, sans me.

aniceh 04-02-2013 12:21 PM

F.I.'s numbers are really impressive, but I prefer the more tucked systems and drone was a major factor in my decision.

There will be some drone with all systems unless it's just one giant resonator. You will have it minimally due to keeping the stock cats. Those are the choke point.

Larger diameter piping, straighter bends, less restriction = more power. They use a good sturdy stock of steel, thus the weight.

Don't let my height distract you...

aniceh 04-02-2013 12:32 PM

...and the Berk is louder. You may have forgotten just how quiet stock is.

Louder than stock means it actually makes noise. Which all exhausts do, so that's a moot point. :icon17:

They also have other parts installed, so it'll be different, a stock Z with a berk exhaust.

I know BoBo has Berk HFC's too, but not sure about Shahid, I think he does, but not 100% on it...

Don't you have Ark?

eastwest2300 04-02-2013 12:42 PM

Yeah blades has HFCs, and a intake.

aniceh 04-02-2013 12:42 PM

They both have Berk HFC's, I believe.

Intakes don't really affect exhaust note that much. :icon17:

dmhenderson 04-02-2013 12:43 PM

It's funny, I bought that GTmat stuff because I thought the sound inside the cabin was ear-shattering when the exhaust first went on. Now I'm kinda used to it. Still haven't installed the GTmat (was waiting for it to get warmer) but now I'm wondering if I even want to.

On the other hand it could just be that I'm slowly going deaf

Exhausts will always be loud when new. It takes time for the exhaust to break in. So the tone will quiet/deepen as it gets older. That's why I didn't bother with that stuff either.
