Although I would like to have Ceramic headers... I can't justify removing mine just to reinstall another set. :icon17:

I'll keep an ear open at meets if anyone is looking for a set.

I'd love your headers but they're too much of an enormous pain in the *** to install.

That's why I had Tony at Fast Intentions install mine. :icon17: There's no way he could allow himself to mess it up... :stirthepot:

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 08:56 PM

I've been told the functional benefit/gains I'd see from headers would be very small too. Just not cost effective.

Spend $1500 to buy/install a part to net 2-3 whp.

Lol its not thattttt bad. Took us 7 hours first time. Passenger side took 90minutes.

And Chris I understand that haha it would not be worth it.

Do you have HFCS now? With tune it'd be more like 5-10

You might net 2-3 Peak HP yes, but throughout the powerband you gain more. Difference under the curve, that's where they make their money.

Drivers side sucks because of the steering linkage, once that's tackled the actual install isn't so bad.

Ha thanks. I'm mediocre. Its more my friends are awesome and I'm a Good assistant.lmao im good at putting everythibg down on paper andnknowing how it works. I still have so much to learn physically doing the work.

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 09:04 PM

Unfortunately, I'm not a mechanic and would have to pay someone a ton to install them

XwChriswX 04-01-2013 09:05 PM

Cody, have you had yours tuned yet? Curious what gains you did get?

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 09:17 PM

Me? Well I had the stock Nismo tune. The dealership installed my Stillen G3 intake and then I had it re-tuned once the exhaust and HFCs went on.

Here are the results:

Edit: Oh wait, NM you said Cody.

XwChriswX 04-01-2013 09:19 PM

That dip right in the middle of the page... I wonder what causes that, it's under 5200rpms so its right in the middle of the powerband... Interesting.

VVEL kicking in?? Or that must be where the stock systems restriction started to block flow?

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 09:21 PM

Beats me. That dip was in every pull they ran though. Vanished with the cats/exhaust on the car vOv

Then it's something potentially with flow maybe? It's odd that it does it stock, but not aftermarket, and it affects both power/torque... And it's such a short spike, it's not an extended problem cause it goes back up afterwards...

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 09:26 PM

Well, this car is bitchier than my last Z. I'll just chalk it up to "personality" and be done with it.

:icon17: Don't worry bud, we've all got qwirks... Mine flatlines at 6500 rpms... No reason why yet, just does, makes good power up to 6500, then just stops... :ugh2:

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 09:28 PM

Cody how much do you want for those headers anyway? I feel like I asked you this before but I don't see it in my PMs. You can PM me or reply here, w/e

$1050 and I'll bring um down to a meet personally.Lol $1200 shipped.

Also Chris...I'm on my phone so I don't feel like copy and lasting your post to quote but with just exhaust no tune or intakes...on a stingy mustang dyno I made 291whp and 245 tq. Add 10% and that's what I'd get on other dynos. So more like 320whp 265tq. Add akuma intakes and a tune and I see 340+whp easy

Gotta tell you those numbers are fluffed bud. Don't expect to be that high.

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 09:42 PM

Wait so I'd be at 340 WHP with those headers o_O? That can't be right.

No you won't.

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 09:45 PM

Was gonna say if you want to guarantee 340 whp peak I'll do it lol

I wish that were the case, but it isn't.

dmhenderson 04-01-2013 09:50 PM

Law of diminishing bolt-on returns. I figured more like 325 whp with my set-up if I sprung for the headers.

Apparently that isn't even achievable. :ugh2:

MyKindaGuise 04-01-2013 09:53 PM

They are a little fluffed 10% is just the typical number to use when comparing the two different types of dynos. Also I know the first mod you do is the biggest but this dyno was stingy trust me. Even the shop said I should be around 300-310is. This setup would see 330 no problem.

FPenvy 04-01-2013 09:54 PM

I'm at 324whp without headers ;)

I hate to break it to you, but it won't. I know. That's what I was expecting as well... Didn't happen.

Also one of you gays better have a camera to finally film my exhaust sound lol

MyKindaGuise 04-01-2013 09:58 PM

But none of you have the ark exhaust.Lol Its okay I don't really feel like having this debate. Anyways point is headers are for sale they have the gains. Same as the exhaust.

I did film it, just the runs were not impressive enough to merit uploading... :bowrofl:

They're super huge files, if you want me to email them to you, I'll try to figure out a way.

Ark vs FI isn't going to have a drastic difference as the flow patterns are roughly the same. I'm just saying, I have them, and 330 won't happen. I don't want to see your hopes not fulfilled..

Mustang is lowww. Aka a heart breaker dyno.

Next time you come down, we'll figure out something. Chase vids or something...

Mustangs read low, due to being a load bearing dyno. DynoJets are usually the middle ground, dynodynamics and dynapacks are usually the higher reading ones.
