Its the much much faster way of doing it, but this time around, Im gonna take as many safety precautions as possible, thats even if I actually go through with it..:wtf2:

K well, the 250 degrees/10 minutes thing destroyed 2 sets of headlights so... I dunno.

mind telling me how you guy placed the headlight inside the oven and was there anything protecting it like cardboard with foil wrapped around it? was it facing up?

dmhenderson 10-11-2012 10:32 PM

Clear housing down on a pan with foil

eastwest2300 10-11-2012 10:33 PM

There was a cookie sheet, with tin foil on it.. the head light was facing up side down..

dmhenderson 10-11-2012 10:33 PM

First time we did it - zero problems. 2nd time, fried headlights.

dmhenderson 10-11-2012 10:34 PM

2nd time we were convinced we had the temp wrong because lol yeah ruined headlights.
The replacement headlights plus the fix are going to cost me just about $900 (depending on whether or not people buy parts from me).

thats exactly what happened.

weiboy718 10-11-2012 10:51 PM

I use a cardboard and wrap it with aluminum foil with headlight facing up at all times. With the lens facing down there's too much heat concentrated on one spot. That is what I have been suspecting happened.

Alright guys, enough of me trolling here.

East west, let me know if you need that projector. I have the passenger side and I have no use for it. I would be happy to help out another member in need of it

eastwest2300 10-11-2012 10:52 PM

You didnt have any issues?

eastwest2300 10-11-2012 10:55 PM

That makes sense, when I think about it, the two sets that got fried, burned in the same spot, so that does make sense, and I would bet you, because the lense isnt a flat surface, the part that burned was the part that the headlight was physically setting on top the cookie sheet.

weiboy718 10-11-2012 11:15 PM

Never had any issues!

Yeah, the cookie sheet is for food so doesn't stick. It won't hold any heat back like aluminum foil and with the lens facing downwards there's always a good chance something may mess up. With lens facing upwards it'll take longer to bake but I feel really safe using that method.

eastwest2300 10-11-2012 11:34 PM

Done deal, thats what I'll do then.

thats the way, slow and patient way to open up a head light. so you dont burn any of the plastics.

That sounds like it would work. On my last headlight, I put it on a soaking wet piece of cardboard and had no problems. This way, at the contact points energy will be first used to evaporate the water before the temperature goes up too high.
