Headlight disaster folks - I did a thing.

09 10 11 12 NISSAN 370Z HEADLIGHT XENON HID SET LH AND RH | eBay

So check what I found (and immediately purchased) for super cheap on ebay.

Three questions:
-I'm obviously keeping the lenses - also the bulbs but does anyone want my old ones (they have defects but nowhere near as bad as some of the others). You can have them for free or buy me a beer or something. Whatever.

-Does anyone want to help me defray costs a bit by buying other parts like the housings/ballasts etc?

-Does anyone know a good customs shop that would handle cannibalizing the new lights and fixing up the old ones? I can't seem to find a shop willing to handle it. Preferably one around the DC area but I'm somewhat flexible.

dmhenderson 10-09-2012 02:13 PM

Got these for about half of what they're worth because there are some housing defects (snapped off tabs etc) but who the heck cares?

eastwest2300 10-09-2012 02:53 PM

Im glad you got a set, thats awesome. I'd like to buy a small piece from you when you get them.. the piece I need is the piece that holds the bulb in place, remember those two metal rods, that we were trying to slide into place only to realize we were beating ourselves to death.

dmhenderson 10-09-2012 02:55 PM

Yep, I remember.

Question is, can we remove that piece without smashing the housing? If I remember right, the piece broke off the housing and not vice-versa.

eastwest2300 10-09-2012 03:07 PM

Thats right... soo let me get this straight, the ones you just bought, you're gonna be taking bits and pieces from those right, the ones on your car you'll be adding to, correct?

dmhenderson 10-09-2012 03:11 PM

Right but I'd like to avoid beating the ones I'm going to cannibalize to death with a hammer so I can at least make a little money back on the parts.

eastwest2300 10-09-2012 03:14 PM

You shouldnt have to "beat them down with a hammer" you should be able to completely break them down into pieces. And sell the parts like that. Or something to that effect.

dmhenderson 10-09-2012 03:16 PM

Yeah let me get them and see what kind of shape they're in before I start parting them out.

eastwest2300 10-09-2012 03:18 PM

Obviously, the biggest piece that you need is the top shell. Once you have that, you'll be golden, BIG TIME.

dmhenderson 10-09-2012 03:49 PM

Yeah both shell/lense thingies are in perfect shape.

That's awesome man! My passenger side one is the one that's melted, so I'll gladly take your buffed/smoothed out one over what I have now. I'll buy you lunch/dinner (depending on what time we eat :p) for the help. I don't need any parts other than the lens.

Yeah I saw the auction and did a double take.

Good price! How about shipping the two chrome housing pieces. I modify those and wouldnt mind having extras

dmhenderson 10-09-2012 08:24 PM

Soon as I get them and they've been cannibalized I'll bump this thread. The chrome interior pieces I'm thinking $40 for the pair shipped?

eastwest2300 10-09-2012 09:01 PM

Are you gonna break these down yourself?

dmhenderson 10-09-2012 09:06 PM

No. Whenever I find a shop, it'll be done professionally.

eastwest2300 10-09-2012 09:23 PM

sweet..

dmhenderson 10-09-2012 11:31 PM

Any idea on a shop that'd do the fixing? D&V won't touch it and Kevin's only suggestion was to ship the lights off to 180customs in NYC but uh...that won't work.

Need to find someone local.

eastwest2300 10-09-2012 11:55 PM

Nope, i dont know anyone off the top of my head, but if you're gonna pay someone to do it anyways, why not ship it off to 180customs. Just have them disassemble them and send them back.

dmhenderson 10-10-2012 06:12 AM

Because I can't ship off all 4 headlights or I won't have a car to drive.

eastwest2300 10-10-2012 06:34 AM

They have a pretty fast turn around time from what I hear. Just an option though, Im sure you'll figure it out.

dmhenderson 10-10-2012 08:01 AM

Yeah I'm going to sniff around through body shops/other gearhead connections. Someone will know a guy who does this sort of thing.

dmhenderson 10-10-2012 08:20 AM

As usual, Khoi has all the answers:

yeah cliff will take care of ya.

he does some pretty neat custom work specializing in nissan/infiniti lights. he did a quad project setup in a g35 that he is raffling off at the hootters meet

VDC_OFF 10-10-2012 08:50 AM

I can walk you through it, its not that hard. Take off all pieces, pop in the oven, 250 degrees for 10 minutes, peel apart.

Haha yes, we've been down that road before. That's how I ended up with scorched headlights.

Hey Mark, what are you getting done at Criswell Nissan?

chieuxuan 10-10-2012 09:00 AM

Btw, your headlight looks way better than Shahid's.

Opps, didn't mean to compare brotha, but his HL buffed out nicely, you should get it buff too.

Actually, it looks like I'm gonna get his buffed out one since he just bought new ones :p

chieuxuan 10-10-2012 09:25 AM

Def. your best choice Sir, it's nice to see it in person than his photo!

dmhenderson 10-10-2012 09:34 AM

Yeah I'm just going to give Shahid my old lenses once Daedalus does their thing. They're getting me a quote today.

Daytime running lights (LEDs) shorted out - one of the sets is taking on water. Since I purchased them with the vehicle, the dealership warrantied them (along with my 3G intake).

Did you see me there or something?

dmhenderson 10-10-2012 09:40 AM

Oh sweet Daedalus is located in Gaithersburg too.

Good stuff Shahid. I think once you switch out the cover, yours will be pretty badass, just my 2 cents.

dmhenderson 10-10-2012 10:04 AM

Shocker
"Yeah you were right, the moisture in the LEDs caused the short, we'll have to order the part and let you know when it comes in."

No sh*t. I could have told you that without you stealing my damn car for the day.
