how long does it take to pull off the bumper?

dmhenderson 08-09-2012 12:37 PM

Well if there are like 6 of us there, we can all work on 2-3 cars at a time which would probably be more efficient anyway.

Like 10 mins or so.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 12:43 PM

Well there it is! Thats what we'll do, moving cars isnt that big of a deal, 2 or 3 people focusing on one car at a time, busting them out. I say we get one at a time done, in and out, and on to the next, I think we can knock out up to 10 cars in what? 6 to 7 hours easily.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 12:46 PM

I got a service jack, jack stands, and all the tools that we should need. My oven will only fit a set of headlights at a time, soo... if we have 2 teams, one team will be removing bumpers, the other team, will be disassembling the headlights, we'll use tape to mark whos who, and go from there.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 12:47 PM

We can make it VERY efficient, if everyone does there part.

Nah we should do more than one at a time. I think 2-3 sounds good. We will be spending some time waiting for paint to dry so we might as well make the best of that time. Make sure to reserve parking spots for us that day :icon17:

falconfixer 08-09-2012 12:48 PM

Bumper is super easy to take off and ramps would make life a lot easier if anyone has a set.

No plans to do this mod but looking forward to the results

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 12:49 PM

I'll let all my neighbors know whats going on, and my lawn out in front of the house, is more than big enough to hold 10 bumpers, easily.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 12:49 PM

I have a set of ramps.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 12:51 PM

I hate to state the obvious, but fellas, its gonna be hot, you're gonna get your hands dirty, and we're gonna need a full day to get this done, I'd like to have everyone here at my house around 9am, 8 would be better, but 9 is reasonable.

Masa 08-09-2012 12:53 PM

I also have a jack and a pair of jackstands if you guys need more.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 12:54 PM

Dude, Im sooo stoked for this.

Screw that! Just start at 10 like every other meet we do.

With the limited space, I don't think I'll be able to paint my wheels that day, so it will have to be just the headlights.

falconfixer 08-09-2012 12:55 PM

Sounds like y'all have a place to do this but in the future if you need a lot of space hit me up. Only bitch is it's a hike for some of you guys and the road coming in is gravel. Road hasn't ****** my car up but I know some folks don't like to drive on it.

If no one has yanked a bumper off yet I might be able to swing by depending on the day and lend a hand. Had mine off when I installed the cooler.

b1adesofcha0s 08-09-2012 12:56 PM

Jacks we'll need for the lowered cars, but we shouldn't need any jack stands.

I've taken mine off a couple times, so we should be ok. Feel free to stop by anyway though

falconfixer 08-09-2012 12:58 PM

Sounds good blades. Was trying to catch up and didn't see if there was someone that has done it before.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 12:58 PM

I'd say for the people that just wanna stop by the house, park away from the house so people that are doing the installs have a spot to park..

falconfixer 08-09-2012 12:59 PM

Just an idea with all the bumpers coming off. Might want to pick up a couple of extra button clips. I would be really surpised if 10 bumpers came off and not one clip gets broken.

Copy :tiphat:

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 01:05 PM

Bumper clips? where do you get those at? I've never taken off the bumper.

falconfixer 08-09-2012 01:08 PM

I call them button clips. DIGI calls them pop rivets http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...r-removal.html

Dealership, courtesypart, hell Z1 might stock them

b1adesofcha0s 08-09-2012 01:08 PM

I'd be more concerned about losing them. I've never broken any, but I have lost a couple :p

Oh hey GOOD call.

Haven't lost/broke any yet but am missing 2 10mm screws that secure the undershroud.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 01:12 PM

Actually, you can get them on eBay, I've seen them on there.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 01:16 PM

About $7 for 30 of them, BUT from China.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 01:23 PM

I just ordered 40 of those clips, I'd rather have more than enough, than not enough.

how big is your oven?! typical residential ovens will probably only fit 1 headlight. but i might be wrong!

opening headlights is very time consuming. factor in the time wasted for it to bake, take apart all the stuff inside the headlight, mask whatever off, paint (at least 2-3 coats) assuming you wait 15-20 min each coat, all this multiplied by the number of headlights.

On a fast pace, if we were to work on 1 car at a time, it would take a solid 3-4 hours from beginning to end. but with multiple cars in the mix we can make this work out very efficiently

Sales@AAMComp 08-09-2012 01:30 PM

and yes was going to say DO NOT go to the stealership for the clips hahaha eastwest you did it right, last time i think i ordered around that many for around $5 shipped. drawback is you have to wait a bit for it to come in

MyKindaGuise 08-09-2012 01:31 PM

I saw a 9am start time. I gotta get up at 6:30 on a saturday to make the trip lmao. Fellas Im a nerd and a gamer so I am a creature of the night haha Im usually going to bet at 3am. Also Im bringing my buddy who is a mechanic at a nissan dealership. So we will have real help on site :P

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 01:32 PM

Its a normal size oven, I can remove the trays, and only leave one in there, and it looks like you'll be able to get a set in there.

Nice!!!! fvcking hell yeah! rep given!

b1adesofcha0s 08-09-2012 01:43 PM

The only thing left for me to decide is the color. Trying to decide whether to do it the standard black or try doing it in the gun metal color I'm gonna paint my wheels. I think it would be a good idea for me to have my wheels painted before doing this to get an idea of how they will look.

eastwest2300 08-09-2012 01:51 PM

Khoi and the Nissan mechanic will be the ones guiding this process along, I think we should get an idea of the teams we're gonna be working with, whos going to be doing what?

4r3s 08-09-2012 01:56 PM

this sounds like a cluster **** and a half

b1adesofcha0s 08-09-2012 01:57 PM

Seems like most of the time will be spent pulling the lights apart. I can help take the bumpers off since I've done it before.
