It just sounds like the plastidip way seems soo much easier and less of a hassle then trying to paint them. Albeit its not as durable as paint.

One thing that every body forgets is get a cordless drill, a socket driver and a 10mm socket, that will make things way faster. I may be there, not sure though.

Taking the bumper off is pretty easy. I can help but I dont want to be blamed for hurting/scratching your paint.

^ yeah, I did mine less than 5 min, but I got access to my friend's shop.

Here's what I was talking about with my wheels Dee. From a distance they look perfect, but when you get up close, you can see it's not perfect. Not bad for a project that cost me a whole $80 for the full set of wheels. My cousin was quoted $100 per wheel to do this at a shop and that was with a discount.

Two words we call that, orange peel and fish eyes...

eastwest2300 09-11-2012 04:53 PM

Orange peel is when the paint isnt smooth and it looks like the skin of an orange. (rough)

Hmmm, so what's the solution here? Sand with 2000 grit then paint + clear like we talked about?

eastwest2300 09-11-2012 04:55 PM

Fish eye, if you look at the top picture, you can see small bubbles in the paint or little black spots, which are really small bubbles that have popped... kinda looking like small eyes. (fish eye)

It could be, the wheel wasnt clean enough, dirt coulda caused it, or the surface wasnt smooth. Theres a few reasons this could happen.

eastwest2300 09-11-2012 04:58 PM

Just looking at the rim, the paint looks really rough. Im guessing this paint came out of a can, is that right?

The wheel I think was clean enough and the primer before the paint went on perfectly smooth. It was out of a spray can.

Yeah, paint out of can, can come out clumpy/thick.. it'll be interesting to see what the sand paper will do, would say this, if you're gonna mess with it before saturday.. you wanna get a bucket with water and dish soap.. you'll need a sanding block, they're cheap. A hose. The key is keeping the sand paper, and the rim wet constantly while you're sanding the roughness out. If I had to bet, it'll look better than what it does now if you do it right.

I'll just wait till Saturday to do that.
