Yeah I bought the butyl from that ebay link. Also randomly bought a DIY interior red LED kit for the overhead light, trunk light and license plate light.

eastwest2300 09-04-2012 08:46 PM

Red LEDs for all 3? ohhh man. Dude give that about a week, you're gonna have serious migraines.. lol

dmhenderson 09-04-2012 09:03 PM

When do you ever use the interior lights except when the doors are open or at shows? I'm gonna keep the originals just in case though.

Yeah the interior lights you'll only see when you open the doors at night. The other two spots you will rarely even see.

But red?? I've seen blue, but not red.. Its gonna be different, I gotta check it out.

b1adesofcha0s 09-04-2012 09:58 PM

My cousin's old RX8 used to have red interior lights. It looked pretty nice.

dmhenderson 09-04-2012 11:41 PM

Yeah I mean, it'll be for shows.

dmhenderson 09-04-2012 11:47 PM

Yeah that's the idea. Car is red/black and nothing else.

I started the install of my illuminated kick plates, I should get the actual plates tomorrow. I removed the old plates today and pulled out the harness from the passenger side.

dmhenderson 09-05-2012 07:41 PM

Use a coat hanger and some duct tape to fish the wire through underneath the console. Untwist the coat hanger, and stick the wire onto the end of it with the tape and gently work it through to the other side. That's about as hard as it gets. I had a helper but I was done in less than an hour.

Oh and make sure you tamp down the cables either with super sticky tape or small brackets so that they dont float around.

eastwest2300 09-05-2012 08:02 PM

Thanks man!

dmhenderson 09-06-2012 10:43 PM

How did the install go? I'm dropping my car off at D&V on Monday night to get the door handles painted. Kinda stoked.

Install went great, I pulled the panels off a day before the kick plates came in, so as soon I got them from UPS today, I threw them in, it was a good install, no hiccups. I wanna see them at night though.

Its a nice addition to the Z.

The DIY was helped a lot!

Bro, you wanna come over and help me throw in my exhaust? I got the pizza and beer, it'll only take a couple hours. Let me know, send me a PM.

Mr. Badass DIY man can't do it himself? :shakes head: :stirthepot:

dmhenderson 09-07-2012 11:33 AM

ugh stop bickering.

I'm booked this weekend and have zero experience installing exhausts but hey, I can attempt to help if you're doing it later on.

Its an exhaust, it took me and kirk TOGETHER to do it the first time! hmmm, which means, it would take me and SOMEONE ELSE to do it again...

brother, its simple... all you'd be doing is holding it here and there while im unscrewing/ screwing bolts. AND it'd be a good opportunity for you to learn how to install an aftermarket exhaust if you ever plan to upgrade.

I know, I've done the exhaust install on my Z with Steve. Now that I know what I'm doing, I'm pretty confident I could do it on my own. Sure it would be a lot quicker and easier with 2 people, but not something that's impossible to do on your own.

Red is neat:

Those LED pods are really bright and when you unlock the car, it looks really cool.

The downside is that red license plate lights are 100% illegal and will result in a moving violation if you get pulled over that = 2 points on your license. I'm gonna keep them for shows though like P&S at Carlisle next year.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea. It literally takes like 2 mins to swap them out so not a big deal.

Yeah I messed around with the rear bulb mounts. It's just a plastic tab that you pop and pull down and the bulb/wire drops down right in front of you. It's really easy to get to.

Haven't done the trunk light yet but I did the overheads in about 5 minutes (and kept the stock bulbs).

You could also get white LEDs for the license plates to put in instead of the stock ones. Would look better while you're on the road.

dmhenderson 09-09-2012 09:15 PM

Yeah maybe eventually. Don't need to make my plate any more visible than it already is...

Anyway, still waiting on my butyl sealant to show up. I bought it from the same place E/W did and I still havent' received it. Checking my order, it does say that the estimated delivery date is this 9/11-15 so hopefully it will show up before Saturday.

b1adesofcha0s 09-09-2012 09:24 PM

I might use this Saturday to refinish my wheels. Not sure if my cousin will have time to help me with it then or if I'll have time to stop by and see how you guys are doing.

Damn dude, you havent gotten it yet? Did it ship out of Philly? Mine did.

eastwest2300 09-09-2012 10:27 PM

I got to see my illuminated kick panels at night, they look pretty sweet, I gotta say.

Just got my ship notification. No idea why it took them a week but that'll work.

Any idea where to get that Krylon semi gloss black paint? Tried home depot and they don't carry Krylon products. Girlfriend is checking Lowes for me after work. After that I'm running out of ideas.

E/W where'd you get yours?
