I've been working on mine for the past 3 days. Washed, clay'd, now doing a stage 2 polish , wax, then the painters tape. I needed to put an orbital to her for a good year, just haven't had the motivation to do it, but zdayz is a good excuse

Red__Zed 05-09-2012 03:58 PM

I'm showing up in a dirty car, because there is no sense polishing a turd :ugh2:

I might not even wash until I'm down there, because I'll be down there for days before anyone else shows up. I've got 12 hrs worth of bugs that'll be stucking to the bumper, so there's no point in washing before the drive.

epiphany.

sfearl1 05-09-2012 04:09 PM

anybody use road wrap for the drive down?

A lot of people just use painters tape, and just do strips across the hood and bumper until its covered

m4a1mustang 05-09-2012 07:23 PM

Road wrap is hard to apply, looks like crap, and leaves film. At least in my experience.

Painters tape is the best way, IMO.

I was trying to find that picture of your Z when you tried it. I remember that it didn't work out so well.

Do you guys tape for the Dragon or just the trip down? It seems like a PITA to tape up every time you go out.

A couple of TX guys at Z Fest last year swore by the stuff (road wrap). If you're not worried about accuracy, it looked easy to apply. Cut n' stick lol. What kind of film did it leave on the car? Like, adhesive residue?

We've got two rolls of the stuff and a bunch of painter's tape here... I'll probably use a combo of wrapping the hood and taping the lights.

KaienZ34 05-10-2012 09:00 AM

Most just tape for the ride out there and home, not while they are there or making runs.

Everyone just tapes for the trip there and home. I don't recall a single car with tape for the drives around FVR. Just wash it when you get there and you really shouldn't need tape with the proper detail products.

Tape makes for an easy clean up once you get there. A little quick detailer takes care of any residue left, but with the delicate painters tape that shouldn't be an issue.

If it looks like we are going to have good weather for the drive down I will probably tape the front end up.

Yep. I'd probably ask for what they're worth, too, plus shipping. I figure the price I could get, plus shipping, would net me a profit of however much it is to ship four wheels.
