...Waiting for wide body...

Camcam1616 05-05-2014 02:20 AM

After having the car static for close to 2 months and having to daily the car like that was a pain in my *** so I decided I wanted bags. So after hours and hours of research, I had decided to just convert my bc coilovers to a bag-over setup. I decided to go with bagriders.com they had a great kit and had some awesome customer service. I ended up doing the accuair elevel set up for management and the aero sport bags from UA.

Install was pretty simple. Aside from wiring which is my weakness. I don't know **** about it. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/e4ebagy6.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/ytyquhyb.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/5y9e7u2u.jpg

Got most of the lines ran and the wiring done.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/ase6ege6.jpg

Got all my stuff run now I just needed to ad the bags in and the elevel sensors
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/use8e7yz.jpg

The next day I had a buddy help me with my elevel sensors.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/arava4ah.jpg

Also got my tank set up for temporary
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/9y8ynuje.jpg

Car lays out on all four corners

Price for air bag setup?

Camcam1616 05-05-2014 02:31 AM

Sold my weds and bought another set of kranze lxz
19x10.5 -24 5.5 inch lip
19x12 -54 7.5 inch lip
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/tegevery.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/zarezeba.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/gesenyda.jpg

And for the test fit..... Well it didn't go well. They not only didn't clear my brakes but after adding a spacer to clear my bbk they now didn't clear the fenders

So after a 25mm spacer in the front and a 5mm in the rear the new specs were
19x10.5 -49
19x12 -59
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/e3a7asad.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/etedy7a4.jpg

The front aired out poked 2 3/4 inches. After adding a spc camber kit. It didn't help at all.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/aberegyv.jpg

And the rear

Over the next few weeks I put tires and a camber kit in to see if I can just full the sh*t out of the fenders and make it happen. That too didn't work. I wasn't getting enough camber aired out and I wasn't getting enough pull due to the way the inner fender well in in the rear of the z. It won't allow for that much pull without cutting and rewelding.

I sell cars. I work for Mazda

DEpointfive0 05-05-2014 02:39 AM

... Did you think the wheels would fit when you bought them? Lol

Camcam1616 05-05-2014 02:46 AM

After sitting for a week while I decided whether to relip the wheels or have a professional body shop cut and pull the fenders to fit I finally made up my mind

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/7etyjyna.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/da8a3yza.jpg

I took the car down to a local shop here in utah that does custom body work. I had seen some of their work before and I had known that they were a good quality shop that I can trust.

I took the car on my day off to get a bid for the work and tell him what I wanted. Also told him I wanted to run even wider wheels in the future so i was even considering doing a full metal widebody. I had never seen it done and i knew that with the rocket bunny kit coming out that it will be done on a lot of cars and become a pretty standard kit. So I wanted something 100% custom and 1 off.

I dropped the car off the next week.

After a week went by I went down to check out the progress on the car.

The front fenders were cut.

Yes. I didn't think I would need a spacer. If I didn't have a spacer they would be fine

Camcam1616 05-05-2014 02:52 AM

Went down to check the car out again a week later and he had started to mock the fronts up. I decided to do a 3in extension on each side with a total of a 6in wider z.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/y8ejudyh.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/ududyden.jpg

Went back a couple days later

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/y8ydy8aq.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/yzysuse9.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/hega4e9e.jpg

Camcam1616 05-05-2014 02:57 AM

Went down just last week and the front began to take shape.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/ype8a3u5.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/vupu2a6y.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/ajubapu6.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/eja2aquv.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/yrugadeh.jpg

And now the front is nearing completion it's half way welded and is getting closer and closer every day. They have not started on the rear yet.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/uty4emup.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/05/qe3y7u2u.jpg

And my personal favorite. A before and after shot.

Not something I would do to my car but I have to admire the workmanship. In for updates.

Sick work, I can dig it! Excellent work on those fenders

Chuck33079 05-05-2014 07:41 AM

If you start at the bottom and scroll up, it's a heartwarming story of a poor innocent Z being restored to a driveable state after it had suffered unspeakable horrors. :rofl2:

JARblue 05-05-2014 07:47 AM

Definitely not my style, but props for big ballz and doing what you want :tiphat:

I'm wondering how a straight on shot of the Z is going to look with those front fenders. It looks like a good bit of work will be going into the front bumper as well. Pics when you get a chance

How much extension are you going with on the rears? Same 3 inches each side or more?

( Click to show/hide )
I cannot imagine daily driving it on those coils and weds :eekdance: I won't even lower mine from stock :icon17:

The only opinion I will state is it makes me sad to see those exposed edges on those nice wheels :(

The rear I have not decided yet. Most likely the same though.

Went to check the car out today. He is in the process of widening the bumper.

I assume you'll be buying appropriately sized tires so you're not forced to stretch them any more once the flares are complete?

Oh. You're sticking with those in the pics? They're very stretched. That was the plan? I had assumed you did that to get the wheels on temporarily until you could make the flares and get ones that fit. My bad.

some people don't understand the concept of tires..
