what are you tuning it with?

Its all preference. Not like I'm using a single gt28.Lol

And yes I'm always down. Were going to sketch and CAD some stuff next week probably.

Any worries or thoughts on having too much wheelspin from this?

I honestly haven't found a good way to describe the sound until reading this.

And yes im stuck taking lame helpdesk calls while he's out wheelin about.

Were using Ecutek. It is being etuned right now by Visconti.

Eh not really. Just don't go full throttle all the time and it will help with that. Also Ecutek will have scaled traction control that will work wonders with the added power.

boosted_mx5 07-26-2013 09:44 AM

Update for you guys. Traction will be more of an issue then I thought. The only car I can compare this too, driving wise, is a C6 corvette ZR1. A ZR1 wants to bury you, that's it's goal in life, in second you gently roll the throttle and think "Oh I'll have some more" All of sudden you're 50-75% throttle, in boost and sideways. This Z is exactly like that. We've been working the tuning out and slowly getting more and more psi. Today I was on a straight road, squeeze the throttle gently, thought "Let's go a bit faster" all of a sudden I'm sideways at 6000RPM and counter steering. No idea what psi I hit, couldn't look at the gauges.

Like the ZR1 I'm now afraid of the Z too. This gonna take some getting used to.

You will either be hooked or in a hospital :driving:

I did forget to tell him to turn TC off as it isn't scaled yet and it is extremely dangerous as I have heard from other boosted members...

But yeah. I took a half day today at work. so 12 CANNOT come fast enough.

im fine with either of those options lol

this next hour is gonna be awful for you :bowrofl: i know it would for me if i had a boosted Z at home

Uhg its so terrible. I would've taken the day off but im on call so any overtime I get this weekend would get sucked away.

MyKindaGuise 07-26-2013 10:04 AM

Also folks keep in mind...we have made any VVEL VVT or timing adjustments...John will most likely be coming down to Harrisburg to do that on a dyno.

Vinyled the car today. Spur of the moment. Turned out nice. Also did racing stripes.

Chuck33079 07-26-2013 06:56 PM

Very impressive. What are you planning to do as far as keeping the heat away from everything?

italy3541 07-26-2013 06:57 PM

if ur out driving ur z hit me up. ill come out..

Thank you :tiphat:

As far as heat goes I will be wrapping all the manifolds and getting some aero space foil on the intercooler piping. Were working on some air ducting plans right now as well. Also new mishimoto radiator is in the plans as well.

And Paul you have a text.

Chuck33079 07-26-2013 07:06 PM

Are you planning on putting on a turbo blanket?

Also, are you using Ecutek for the boost control?

italy3541 07-26-2013 07:07 PM

I seriously cant wait to see it in person.... mad props to you for doing this build!!!!!!

Exactly. It's always so more impressive when you just order a bunch of parts and build the damn thing yourself. I wish I had the skill set to say, "I'm going to boost my car. I need a turbo and some pipe."

bro.. LOL I could have told you that! lol same **** happened to me at first...
I actually have to be really careful on base when driving the NISMO... because I will spin the tires and the cops on base realllllly frown on that

O&G 07-26-2013 07:16 PM

Way to step off the beaten path.... keep the progress coming!

MyKindaGuise 07-26-2013 07:33 PM

Probably going to pass on the blanket. They have pros and cons.

And Ecutek will eventually be used for boost control. Right now its just on there for data logging and tuning. John told me scaled traction control and...hold on to your hat...speed density tuning is right around the corner. I cannot WAIT to ditch these MAF sensors!

Thanks a lot bud. Really hope I can get another tune from John tomorrow so that we can step a bit more into boost. Right now anything past 60-70% throttle still bogs. He has been busy this week and so have I so progress hasn't been through the roof but I am VERY pleased.

Well believe me I am certainly not in that category either. I understand how it all works and what is good on paper...but when it comes to the doing part that is all Pat. Im mostly an extra set of hands for working on the car....I have learned a TON of stuff from this project. Easily the most fun and educational summer I have ever had.

Haha Im sure the cops love that...I cant even keep my car quiet around them now so its interesting. :ugh2:

Thanks for the kind words brother! We will certainly keep the updates coming. We have ALOT of stuff still planned..including a recent idea formed today to mess with the stock rear bumper to make that single exhaust look more natural and add a BIG rear diffuser. Similar to the lotus exige rear.

boosted_mx5 07-26-2013 07:34 PM

Yeah the car is super fun. My problem with heat wrap/turbo blankets is over heating the components. Though a blanket is pretty much a necessity.

Its pretty impressive how much crap HASN'T melted. A few pieces of plastic hit the exhaust and melted a chunk on but it should be almost burned off by now.

I had him roll into boost in 3rd on the highway. 4psi feels like a rocket. I can't wait for it to be fully tuned. We hit full boost and its "safe". But its so rich its losing power and if you were to go WOT it would bog it was so rich. Like anti-lag sounding it will bog so bad.

And one last pic. You can see the racing stripes here. It is mimicked on both sides. Looks awesome from the front with the hood breaking the lines up.

when I get my full vented hood completed. I will let you know.. underhood temps are HORRIBLE, but it gets hot man..

and yea man when I get home I will do a few passes so you can hear my waste gate.. so loud ..lol

I really want to see the end result. Vented hood is pretty high on my todo list. I saw a DIY on the S2k forum and it looks...do-able.lol

Please do. The internet needs moar turbo Z videos.

its got 8 vents total, 2 in the center and 3 on each side..

and from what I have done as far as research.. it should pull a lot of heat

With the turbo where it is, that close to the radiator and intake pipe, I'd say the pros far outweigh the cons.

I'm anxious to see what he can do with speed density, as well as the VVEL/VVT and timing on a turbo car. Plus, boost control in each gear is almost a necessity. I'd like to be able to use second gear again.

:bowrofl: :iagree:

and trust me, the blanket is a GOOD idea...

boosted_mx5 07-26-2013 09:06 PM

I guess my phone post never made it. Yeah the turbo blanket is pretty much a necessity.

Haha that's how mine is kinda off. 1 12"x4" vibrant muffler and 1 vibrant race muffler.

Chuck33079 07-27-2013 11:44 AM

Is a single 3" big enough? I was under the impression that the stock two 2.5" pipes outflow a single 3". Maybe a 3.5" would be more appropriate. Considering you guys can build basically whatever you want, why not go a little bigger?

The plan is 4"+ single or 3" duals in the future.

Chuck33079 07-27-2013 12:29 PM

Ok. That makes more sense.

boosted_mx5 07-27-2013 01:43 PM

Yeah in time it will happen. Want to see what we can push with this set-up first.

Hey quick question btw - how did you do the footwell accent lighting? Is there a DIY somewhere?
