Totally off topic, but my Wife just sent this to me and dubbed it our new theme song. I lost my $hit listening to it haha.

Edit: going on a week and no update, withdrawals are kicking in hard... I'm really wanting to see what the pulleys look like currently. I'm wondering what they are doing over there lol. Maybe putting on my new brake upgrades? I'll keep from my urge to email spam... for now.

Dzel 05-01-2013 08:05 PM

That's awesome!

Mandingo 05-06-2013 05:57 PM

This is all so cool. Have you received any estimate of the total installed weight of the kit?

I have not. I would guesstimate at least 75lbs? It would be comparable to a TT kit, but this would have more weight up front and higher.

KaienZ34 05-06-2013 06:31 PM

It's the coolness factory, not the weight that matters.

I was thinking the same thing. Hmmm gee..... That kit might weight almost 100lbs but doubles my hp... Decisions decisions :roflpuke2:

SS_Firehawk 05-13-2013 05:00 PM

Well, looks like I'm going home sooner than I thought. Contracting changes, the drawdown in AFG, and some misleading (outright incorrect) information, I will be heading home by the end of the month. This means I need my car sooner than I had hoped. So I messaged GTM about the change so we both know what we are working with.

Mike said the car is throwing P0300 and P0172 codes. O2 sensor and fuel trims are all over the place and they strongly believe the O2 sensors were wired incorrectly. I distinctly remember thinking the same thing and asked the shop about it. They claimed they extended it one wire at a time. I also remember replacing an O2 sensor too. I told them everything I did last year as I was chasing this same thing. I'm happy my suspicions are true, but also upset that the issue is still present. This could very well explain the lower than normal power numbers compared to a similarly modified vehicle.

Edit: To elaborate my thoughts a bit more... Which I was suspicious of all along with the headers because I had a SES since they were installed. To think the car gained 30whp with an exhaust and headers and O2 sensors reading retarded is crazy, and gaining 46 with intakes and pulley's is surprising in retrospect with this issue being here as long as it has. I was anticipating over 50whp gains for those mod. My torque was always soft for the mods I had. Full stepped headers and an M370 should have helped immensely. I was also expecting torque to be around 260lbft and it was only 245, so power under the curve was soft. Looking at the latest dyno graphs, the line isn't as smooth as other peoples graphs (dynojet). Nearly all of my gains are at the top and that's probably because no restriction, but very little in the mid range where it should be strong.

Edit: I was able to prove that I was mislead with bad information from old management and got my time to get my CCNP cert pushed to the original June date I had. I have the switch test done which I came to find out was considered the hardest, and hitting route in a few days. It looks like I won't be going home early anymore :)

SgtGoldy 05-13-2013 07:45 PM

dang brotha, I hope you get your Z in time. Best of luck and keep us updated :D

SS_Firehawk 05-31-2013 02:53 PM

Man oh man, what a day!!! Let me start by some good news. I passed my TSHOOT exam for CCNP, I'll be completing my contract through August. Such a load off my shoulders as today was the deadline. That's the only good news I have though... well maybe some good news for guys looking for parts off my car when I get home.

So all of my fears have been realized with this build... I got an email from Mike and none of it was pleasant news except the fact that they know the fix action.

"As you know, your car has a CEL P0300 and had that code when it came in. We took a peek under there and noticed that the previous shop had put the primary sensor in the J tube instead of the freestream bung. We switched them around and there was no change. It looks like the previous shop extended the wrong O2 sensor wires. In addition, the wires appear to be crossed which melted and shorted the wiring. You will need two new O2 sensors as well since they were shorted out. Because the O2 sensor wires are shorted, there is a small chance that may have damaged the ECU so we need time to diagnose your car and check the ECU. I have attached some pictures of the wiring and O2 sensors so you can see what we're talking about. Overall, we need an additional 5 hours for diagnosis, repair, re-wiring, checking the ECU, and replacing the 2 O2 sensors plus the cost of two new sensors.

Next, the CSF radiator will not work since the water neck is a one piece setup whereas the stock radiator is a two piece setup. That means the water neck on the CSF radiator will interfere with the supercharger on the passenger side. We have a special elbow that replaces the stock elbow to give clearance between the water neck and the supercharger. Since the CSF is a one piece elbow, we can't use our elbow. Also, we use different radiator hoses to clear the supercharger brackets, belts and pulleys so your silicone radiator hoses won't work either.

Finally, your 72 row oil cooler is 2" wide and there is nowhere to mount it since there is not enough room to put it anywhere."

So yeah, if you go back and read through this journal, I've already questioned the oil cooler and O2 sensors. I was not expecting the CSF radiator to be an issue as well. I called them to discuss it a bit. I will be receiving a quote for the O2 sensors, the labor, their radiator/fan kit, and oil cooler kit... one that is equivalent to my 72 row. Here are the images they shared with me as well. It pains me :(

So the good news for some of you all... Parts will be available in a few months

AE Performance 72 row oil cooler
Brand new CSF radiator (spoken for)
NST pulleys (spoken for currently)
AEM Gunmetal CAI (spoken for already)
Red Z1 polyurethane hoses (spoken for)

PM me if you want details on these parts. I won't be home until late August, so it will be some time.

For the record... making 310whp STD is pretty impressive after seeing this botch. I wish I knew what it could have been if she was running right.

boarderbob 05-31-2013 06:21 PM

I hate reading about situations like this. Sorry for your troubles. Hopefully you get it sorted out. Are you selling the car, or just getting rid of some of the parts?

SS_Firehawk 05-31-2013 06:25 PM

Just parts :) Have to get GTM stuff and spend more $$$ lol.. not really a laughing matter

tturbo370z 05-31-2013 06:30 PM

Wow sorry to here about the set backs and botch job. Fingers crossed your ecu is ok. Blows about not being able to use your radiator. Did u go with the competition radiator with heat exchanger in it and HO spal fans like i did? Seems to be a kick *** setup but not inexpensive by any means, but nothing I have done on this build has been at this point. Our cars are garage mates awhile longer as mine is sitting waiting for aero parts from Japan. Needed to move around the 2 34r oil coolers so we can get more air flow to the radiator so I will be able to drive it here in AZ. Getting tired of waiting thou. Started this project a year ago.Hopefully they can get yours wrapped up and to you for when u get home.

Haha, twin 34's are pretty serious. Mine being SC, there isn't quite as much of a load on the cooling. I'm wondering what they recommend. But I will most likely get their competition radiator and SPAL fan setup. With the oil cooler, I think twin 25's would suffice. Hopefully there is enough air flow... I just feel like I wasted money on the radiator and red hoses. The oil cooler, I love that thing, I am not happy it won't fit. It was insanely expensive and worth every penny. I would be 115 outside and I'm stuck in a traffic jam, it might creep up to 220... The second I start moving, it steadily drops. Highway speeds in the same heat was around 200. While tuning, it stayed at 180, runs down the drag strip and idling in line, 180. It was a great oil cooler.

Nixlimited 05-31-2013 07:32 PM

You want to put those Z1 hoses on my car? Not too far to go? ;-)

If I were you, I check if they even work with your kit in the first place :rofl2:

Edit: Just going to add an update to this post. I'll most likely get a recommendation and quote from GTM on Monday for everything. My initial guess so far is their 70mm radiator upgrade with built in heat exchanger, a 25 row oil cooler, shroud and SPAL fan kit. I was looking at their twin oil cooler setup as well, but that blocks more of the radiator and with the IC's up front, airflow will already be reduced. Just my thoughts.

https://www.gtmotorsports.com/produc...roductid=17727

Edit: 6/9/13
So much for receiving a quote from GTM I was supposed to get on Monday... Same damn thing every week. Whatever timeline they give you, double it, it will be more accurate. Told them to fix the damn thing and add it to the tab. I still want to know how much it costs, and their recommendations for replacing the stuff that won't fit! I know it's going to add a few grand to the total cost... I do have other bills and it would be nice to figure out what the F@CK is going on! I may need to call them tomorrow. Luckily their work is superb, but their timelines are not. Month 7 btw. I'm sure they will use all 9 that they had available. Okay I'm done ranting.

Edit: 6/14/13
Sam emailed me yesterday saying he was going to send it later that day, still got nothing, all day today, still nothing. I sent another email 30 minutes after their stores hours were closed, will wait all day tomorrow, and will just call them on Saturday before work if I don't receive anything. All I want is an updated invoice on the new parts needed. This doesn't take two weeks to email to a customer. I understand they're busy with the MHI kit, instructions for both mine and the MHI, and all their other side projects, but that excuse only excuses so much. Two weeks is really just unacceptable. May 31st was when I was told my stuff won't fit and they will prep a quote by Monday. I emailed on the 6th about the quote, nothing, called on the 11th, or Monday morning, they said they would get it out to me that day (didn't catch name due to delay in line). Emailed at the end of the day because it did not come. Emailed on the 12th, Sam emailed back saying he will get it out today, did not receive that either. Emailed this morning, the 14th as a reminder, still nothing. Just sent my last email before I resort to calling and staying on the F'n phone till I get it in my inbox. I'm disappointed right now. It's the little things that are irritating. I'm spending a lot of money, I'm no special customer, or some baller customer or anything like that. It's not out of line for what people pay to have stuff done there. I limit inquiries to biweekly, with this quote issue being the exception (supposed to only be a couple days wait). If I give someone a date and time, I expect to deliver by that time. Give me an accurate estimate. They aren't even in the same ballpark.

Created a sale thread for all my parts Parts 4 Sale GTM will ship straight to the customer for me :) Everyone who said they wanted something has been marked as such and reserved in the thread. If they decide to opt out, it will be up. If I don't receive payment in 7 days, it will be up for sale as well.

Talked to Sam@GTM extensively today. Finally gotten things ironed out. Pending Wife approval, I'll be getting their competition radiator, SPAL fan shroud, twin 25 row oil cooler, and new baffled oil pan. This is costing me a terrible amount of money and my parts sale really only covers half of what I have to pony up. Looking at the quote felt like I got gut punched. It is what it is. Everything he told me about why to get this amount of cooling was exactly what I already knew and needed to hear from a subject matter expert so I can justify the wallet pain. In retrospect, I would not have done this if I knew how much this is turning out to be. One leg is already in, so I'm finishing what I started. Lastly, I picked up a used set of Whiteline Swaybars :) those were a fraction of the cost of what that quote looked like lol.

Almost forgot... Sam also told me the Z1 brake kit is on and rewireing/replacing the O2 sensors fixed everything!!! He also told me they can have everything wrapped up in a month. It was about the only real good news I received lol.

Edit:Wive approves. Full steam ahead!

Mr&Mrs 06-15-2013 08:25 PM

Just got caught up on all your build pains. Sorry man I know how it can suck. On the bright side when finished you will probably be the only Twin SC for a long time with all the cheap kits being purchsed/available (MHI Kit).

If people really knew the price of forced induction... HAHA! I smell a lot of upselling going on soon. Well played GTM. This has gone over budget by 60% already LOL. I'm just relieved everything is back on track and full steam ahead. I couldn't stop cursing at the PDF file that GTM sent.

Yeah I didn't see it coming either. I'm not kidding when I say I could have bought a GTR for what I have been dumping Into my car. It's like u said your already so far in u can't back out. I'm just hoping it works out well for the both of us when the applied pressure stops hurting.....the wallet:ugh2:

Sam was telling me that one pull on your car on the dyno with the stock radiator would bring coolant temps to 110c in a 75 degree garage. I was like "F@CK" I broke down and bought their radiator...

Yeah probly a good call since Vegas can get a little warm also. To go cheap after having all the dough you have in there just wouldn't do you any justice. Go big or go home. If mine blows up I'm gonna junk it and go back to a normal car lol well an actual gtr instead of trying to build one again. At this point I'm waiting on aero from Japan b4 they can reroute my oil coolers so I might actually be able to drive my car in the summer here. I hope yours works out nicely. Always look forward to heading about progress. Havnt had any progress on mine in mos.

Nixlimited 06-15-2013 11:46 PM

I'm going with their comp radiator and SPAL fans too, so I know the pain, but it will be worth it. No reason to invest all that money in the power with the stock, underwhelming cooling system.

SS_Firehawk 06-17-2013 07:23 PM

I'm glad I have you guys to share the pain with lol. GTM's had all three of ours for a good while. I can't wait to see the finished product after everything is said and done, and not just mine either! There are a couple things I wish I could do now, but I really don't want to spend more cash. The traction control system would be awesome. I'm hoping with the lower torque in general over turbo cars will help with that. Though I really do hate the stock VDC system. I would also love to add a few gauges... It's one thing I really need to do asap. Maybe by the end of the year. I still want Nismo dampers and Swift springs. A spoiler, maybe (not sure yet) a vented hood, EVO-R side blades, some new shoes, diff, and brake cooling. Maybe jazz up the sound system too. Gah!!! It's all so damn expensive! One at a time...

Lmao that's how it starts. You officially have the sickness. The longer they take to finish my car the more money I spend on the car. As you can also notice is happening on your build. After some time goes by I get bored and buy a new part. My car is almost 100% done. There isn't anything I can think of that I want. Waiting on work wheels, fujimura front bumper, amuse rear and mines spoiler to come from Japan and I'm done. Kind of disappointing I won't have countless hours researching and looking for new parts. I kind of wish I had taken My time and did one piece at a time so I could have enjoyed the build process. Once I get my car back its done :-/ I too am looking forward to seeing how all our cars turn out. Aparently perfection doesn't hurry as my car has been at GTM over 9mos now. At this time it's waiting for parts that's whats holding me up but the wait still sucks

We will see a lot of builds where this will be the case. Especially with that group buy as large as it is, some will be stretching to make their TT dreams come true. The ones who are smart or have the funds will def have or will have upgraded cooling systems. There will be a lot of information on FI builds though

I know there were a few guys looking at doing twin superchargers. I'm wondering if they are still going for it or if they went another route due to the delays of getting this kit out. It was supposed to be out last year and the first build is just now finishing up in the next few weeks.

I would love a Fujimura bumper lol. Sam was trying to talk me into it, or at least throwing it out there. He said he would be able to seperate the intercoolers and oil coolers for better airflow to the radiator. I have no doubt he's correct as I thought about it too, but I'll just run her as she is now. I'll do some data logging on the oil temps, IAT's, and water temps to see how they do when I get home. I really cannot throw more money into this without having a seriously pissed Wifey or getting my home upgrades complete. It costs so much more money to do things right! Or at least to have copious amounts of power in the desert ROFL. Who knows, maybe I'll strike a killer job when I get home and afford to get the engine built :stirthepot:

tturbo370z 06-18-2013 08:00 AM

Ya that's why my car is still there as we needed to find a way to be able to keep it cool in the desert. We have so little space in the engine bay and airflow is shite with all the intercoolers, oil coolers etc in the way. Ya my wife just found out about the price the other day :ughdance: she didnt realize when I kept saying its only an extra this or that and she agreed, that she agreed to thousands :roflpuke2: best of to keep the wifey happy and forge on with the home improvements ASAP. I may let the wifey drive mine with just spring pressure and racelogic set all the way up. Still should be around 450whp. She should have fun with that, but hells no will she be allowed to take it out alone. I love my wife but that's just asking for a wrecked car and Injured wifey. :ughdance: its cool u gonna let the wifey play with her

SS_Firehawk 06-23-2013 03:39 PM

I do not like selling stuff. Such a PITA.

Edit: (27JUN) Nothing to report currently. Happy to get all the parts out to buyers. May need to cough up a belt for the pulleys though. GTM can't find it. I reluctantly reduced the price on some stuff. Was hard to do as I know I would have bought these items for that price, but I had to reevaluate from the outside in.

Edit 2: (01JUL) GTM found the belt and finally got everything out that was bought. Still no news on progress with the vehicle. Closest thing I got to info is my front bumper must be back on because Pablo@ GTM couldn't find a car with the front bumper off. That at least tells me the oil coolers and radiator are installed and everything is put back together. So as long as they already swapped O2 sensors and fixed the wiring, tuning should be the last thing to do.

Edit 3: (07JUL) Still have AEMs, stock radiator, and 2 sets of spark plugs to sell. If I can move the AEM's soon, I'll just close the thread down and take the other stuff home. I was able to recoup about $2,500, roughly half of what the cooling upgrades and O2 fix cost. Hoping to get in contact with GTM soon and get the hoses and oil cooler out the door. Took too long the last time. I haven't received any new info and it's 08July. I've asked via email for an update, but they don't say anything about the car, just letting me know a tracking number and that the items I sold left. With GTM finishing it up, I think they are putting together a bunch of info to post and update me on. That's fine and dandy, but they can at least tell me things are about done.

Edit 4: (09JUL) No updates till August, Sorry Gentlemen....

Looks pretty stellar. It's cool to see it coming along. I like how with the new systems you are able to retain the factory crash bar. If someone taps me my Intercooler is dead. Thanks for the pics as I havnt seen some of these yet. I would ask for an eta but being my car was there b4 yours I'm not sure you have one :roflpuke2: I just hope its done when u come home

 Thanks gentlemen.
I was told a few weeks, so I'm guessing some time in the first week of August with the 2nd week being the latest. We shall see. I posted these a while back in April, I felt it would be nicer to see everything in sequential order instead of filtering through posts in between.

Edit: Bought Carbon Signal fenders while half asleep without Wife approval. No fun explaining that one. Seriously took logging in paypal and clicking a button. Well, guess I have fenders OTW
I have no clue how much it's gonna cost to get them painted and fitted on the car. I got them in FRP. Thinking of wrapping the outer curved fender vent thing after it's done in one color.

Edit: (18JUL13) Alright so these fenders I mentioned above. I can get them prep and painted by Carbon Signal and sent to me. Question I have for you all is fitting them. Is there a chance I'll have to repaint them if they don't fit correctly? I have no clue what is needed to make them fit properly. They said they fit very well with minimal "work", I'm just trying to understand what work may be needed.

Edit: (18JUL13) Thanks for the replies Gentlemen. From what I hear, magnetic black isn't too hard to paint match, but I'm clueless with the whole fitment thing. Carbon Signal did say that they prepainted and then fit the fenders on the Nismo they used for the GB thread. But I was just told it would run another couple hundred in shipping turned me off on it as it would spend a total of $500-$600 more on top of the $650 I sent already, $100 being in shipping. I'm trying to clarify the additional shipping costs and will edit if I'm wrong. I find it kind of crazy that it costs nearly as much in shipping as the fenders cost by themselves. Not used to this International shipping thing then...

Edit: (02AUG13) [Comments below are not about this portion of the post] Talked to Sam@GTM today. Nothing really to update unfortunately. He still says the cooling upgrades need installed and tuning performed. This was the same thing a month ago. Only thing I can surmise is that he is juggling projects based on priority. With mine having to be with them till August anyways, they are using ALL 9 months to complete the vehicle. I'm fine with it, as long as it's done when I arrive. They know my ETA back to the States, and am confident it will be G2G. He did say everything will be installed in the next week or so, which gives two solid weeks of tuning, and tracking down any unknown issues. In reality, that should take no more than a few days, but priority of work dictates the timeline. One bit of good news is that Sam will be sending me pictures and updates as it finishes up. That I'm excited about. I haven't gotten pics of my car since June, and those were of the issues they had to take care of. Before that was April. There should be a lot of information coming down from TSC builds. I believe there are 3 G's, and two Z's ATM. I don't doubt a few more will jump on the boat if the results are good.

It's best to get them painted after they are fit so they can blend the paint and so none of the fitting work damages the paint.
