Wow, the meth bottle looks like it belongs there. Congrats on the build and outcome of this beast!
The motordyne hfc looks almost like a resonated test pipe. Is that really a CAT? Interested to see the # differences since I will be running resonated test pipes and would like it not to smell. Again, sick build and can't wait to see the videos. Please posts a lot...I need some car porn while I'm waiting on my stuff. |
Thanks for the comments all. It's really coming down to the wire. Everything is installed, tomorrow is tuning, a shakedown drive to make sure everything was fixed and functioning correctly, and delivery in the afternoon. I wanted to grab it in the morning, but they will still be finishing it.

I'm building mine as well. But I'll be using an Asus Maximus VI Hero and GSkill Trident 2400 ram. PSU is a Coolermaster 1kw gold rated and modular... I also prefer custom watercooling in the CPU. 4770K's run hot as hell, so serious cooling is needed. I plan on running at least one 780. Not sure if I'm gonna run a GPU cooling loop. Also orderd a Gskill 240gb SSD. Gonna do a red white and black theme. If anyone wants a 4ghz 980x based pc with 560ti's, 2000mhz Dominator ram @ 7-7-7-20 timings, pc power and cooling psu (older model), 60gb SSD, 2TB HDD and mountain mods bobslay v2 case lemme know. It black, red, and metal colors. Also have a 920 based system. Both use top quality parts. I'll post a for sale thing some time this week. |

Check out that PSU man. Best one out there hands down  |
Maximus VI Xtreme? :yum: Im still running on my Red Dragon (my name for it) build, dang its pushing 4 years old now. Im due for a new build but I use PC so little for gaming now that its hard to make myself do it.
Red Dragon -LIAN LI ARMORSUIT PC-P50R Red Aluminum ATX -ASUS Crosshair III Formula AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard -AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad- Core Processor -(2) XFX HD-585A-ZNBC Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB Black Edition 256 bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 -Crucial Ballistix Tracer 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) w/ Red LEDs Model -Thermaltake Black Widow 850W ATX 12V v2.3, CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular -500 GB WD -Windows 7 Home Premium So ya I would love to see pics of your new rig! It might force me to start building a new one myself. I have a HTPC plan that is going to be awesome if it works. I found a company with software that I can use with my old Kinect that will allow the HTPC to be hands free airless touch. I have not seen anyone else do this yet so im excited to give it a shot. |

I dont use the PC much anymore so the most I think I will do is a SSD for the OS. I guess I meant your build may force me to do my HTPC. It would be so nice to have all my movies organized and not have to grab a disc and place in the player when we are ready to watch a film. Not to mention the curb appeal when people are over.
I still have my 10 year old rig also that I recently refreshed and gave to the wife. It can still run circles on the newest mass produced PC's. I will stay on topic now. Dont forget pics of your new rig! |
Uploaded pics of the PC finally. I had to take the Corsair H100i because the water pump was intermittent. It would make an odd noise and I would have to tap the case to make it work. The new one is working like a charm though. I did notice on torquing the screws down that hold the cpu, they are bending and looking crooked. I had an issue where the plate wasn't putting enough pressure to make contact with 1/3 of the CPU, so I retightened them and in the process, they don't look straight anymore, definitely not cross thraded either. I finally settled on 4.5ghz @ 2.75v. 4.6ghz boots, but I felt it unstable, voltage was a bit high and temps were noticeably warmer than the 4.5ghz OC. 4.7ghz was very unstable and I didn't feel the need to push it. For the memory, I bumped it up from 2133mhz 11-11-11-27 2T timings @1.5v to 2400mhz 12-13-13-31 2T @1.65v and it ran flawless. I attempted 11-12-12-31 2T but it wasn't having any of it. I ran some burn in tests, Prime 95'd the CPU, stressed the memory and everything with no reported errors.
I have Windows 8.1 preview running on it. There are a couple minor hiccups I saw, such as the task bar disappearing a couple times. running explorer.exe in task manager fixed it. I was able to hide nearly all the wiring from view except at connection points, but the way the Corsair H100i is setup, there is no way for me to reroute those cables. They're too short to run it along the VRM's and then behind the case. Later on, we'll stencil some stuff on the case to add a feminine touch as it's my Wife's computer. As it sits, it's pretty manly looking with the military colors. http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse2bfa319.jpg http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps7b495e9a.jpg http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps4c93b356.jpg http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...psae30e8a3.jpghttp://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...psef10a0d6.jpg http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps56b127d1.jpg http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps3ad9f3ff.jpg http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps07b57f9e.jpg http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/z...psfc53e441.jpg |
Sucks that your car is delayed such a sick build you will have a blast once you get it back:tup:
That meth reservoir really looks at home there I have to call Sam now and pick up one. |
Hi Firehawk - it's interesting that they had a pulley bearing go - that also happened to me on initial startup and I had to put a washer behind the bearing to provide some clearance between the bearing and the engine - once I got that sorted out (and put everything back together) - put about 100 miles on before the OEM fixed idler pulley began to squeak for the same reason - put a washer behind that one and it's been good since. I have about 1000 miles on it now including one track day & everything seems to be holding together pretty well. Still have more tuning to do which Sam is helping me with.
|
Really had no idea you could build a PC with a water pump. Mind Blown! I googled a bunch of your build info and then got drowsy, I wish I knew more about this stuff. Looks rad for sure.

Picked up car from GTM last night. Tail lights weren't working. Relay in the engine bay for the tail lights was corroded. So it was replaced. They are working on fixing a squeaky pulley when it's cold. I noticed it last night. Hopefully this doesn't take long.
Edit: Well... took long, finally have her back by 3pm Edit: Eating before I get on the road. They topped off my meth and made sure the pulley was g2g Edit: Confirmed pulley size is 92mm. In Barstow, running like a champ |

never ending! hopfully all is well after this.

Car made it home without issue. Oil temps got to about 218 when driving at a "brisk" pace for 20+ miles up the mountains and temps hitting about 98 degrees. Adding a few pics I took. Car is dirty as hell, still need to do videos... Took a pic of the relays, the tail light one was replaced, new brakes, front bumper area, and meth gauge

I can only imagine how excited you are that this long project is finally done. The car looks absolutely amazing. Enjoy your new toys!

It's done! Man it's a beast!

21SEP: Unfortunately vids have to wait till next weekend... Ran out of time in my day.
22SEP: Wife drove it today while I was out of town. She's loving the power. I think she is power hungry, now she wants her car to be fast like mine. The pulley still squealed when cold, but she said she only noticed it when she started to drive and only for a few blocks. I had a C4 trying to bother me, I put a few school busses between us with out much effort. Random Bmw's and Audi's revved on me till they heard my BPV hissing at them. They no longer felt it a good idea. There were a few broken Honda necks with youngins eyeraping the car. Probably trying to figure out what is hiding under the bonnet. Car garages force me to roll down the windows and go hooning to see how many alarms I can get to go off. I'm still trying to pin point rasp or drone, but I haven't heard or felt any. The pitch changes from low and deep to high around 4-5k rpm. It's so deep I can feel it in my chest when I press the gas, but it doesn't give me a headache at any rpm. There is no raspy tinny sound that I can hear, but sounds close to it as it starts climbing past the mid range. Ill post vids and new dynos when I get back home. |
Congrats man! Happy you're done. Hoping I am next.
|
Well here is a quick run I recorded, a bit of wind noise. I'll try and upload more tomorrow.
|
Nice vid showing the power. 1st and 2nd spinning like crazy. Time for some better tires or traction control or boost by gear setup.
|
Excellent... (in Mr. Burns voice)

Added initial startup and some exhaust sounds. Not the greatest quality, but you get the point :) I also picked up the pulley squeal on startup.

Fuel starve got me at 3 dots and a right turn at a light... Walked my *** to the gas station after working it out...

Yeah, I parked the car a half mile down the street after I did it to work out, had no issues getting there. It was after I finished working out I went to start her up and she was stumbling all over till the motor died.
I was also playing with my meth. I was seeing how it was tuned. It doesn't start pumping until I'm mashing on it, I can be part throttle at high rpm and it won't pump. I thought it was pretty cool. I was also learning to read the meth gauge as it was a mystery for a while. After getting on it and watching the gauge, I can see the bars turn red and light up as the pump starts flowing the meth. Hoping maybe I have enough time and money to take her in for a midnight dyno. |
Dang im at work and cant watch the videos. I will as soon as I get home though! Sorry about the fuel starve. You dont think it was a hot start issue?

I tried taking her to the dyno last night but no-one was at the shop. Next time I'll be able to is a couple weeks. I'll see if Wifey will film a driveby for me by then too. |
After seeing your meth install and watching my intake etc all apart and going together I decided that I should do the aquamist install on mine as well. Ya know, since there in there  It was the wife's idea who came with me to check on the car. If I recall you added meth when your wife went with u last also. Not sure when the wifeys talked but it worked out as planned :tiphat: I figured will all the heat issues I have been having it would make sense to try this also. How have your temps been? It hasn't exactly been hot lately but was curious.

I love my meth kit. It kicks in when needed and doesn't spray unnecessarily. The tank positioning in the hatch was awesome. I need to hook up my uprev cable to log water temps, but I have a feeling they are pretty cool. Highest my oil temps have gotten are 220 with some flogging and weather in the high 90's. I'm thinking for track days, twin 25's may have been a better idea, but we'll see. During warmups, with the 9.5 quarts of oil, it takes a good 10 minutes of the car just sitting there for the oil to warm up. Wife wanted the car to be reliable in the heat, so yeah, she said, do what you think is best. |
Quote:
Congrats on the set up car came out good I am curious to see what your water temps are. From my own experience the water temp runs higher than oil temp when pushing the car in the heat. |
Uploaded an extended version of the drive. I added annotations too.
I was missing her while here in ATL, so I started watching the videos again lol. Pathetic I know. |
